It's easy to call Americans stupid...

And as a 'white boy' living in Britain I can assure you I have never felt opressed or marginalised. Perhaps I am not insecure or concieted enough. in my experience the only 'poor' white males who ever express this notion are those who feel that they should be considered naturally superior to women, blacks and anyone else who they don't consider to belong to their own particluar little in-group.

Which is pretty pathetic whatever country you're in.
  • ...but it's difficult to say the same thing about other nationalities. This is because Americans could give a shit what other countries think. You type in "stupid americans" and you get a host of results, but you type in "stupid britons" and you get nothing. But, don't let that fool you: the British do have their own problems, as all countries do.

Britain has its own problems with education, especially that of white males.

"The report stresses that only 17 per cent of white working-class boys managed to gain five or more A to C grades at GCSE."

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/11/15/nboys15.xml

That's the lowest of any group in Britain. The next highest is black-carribeans at 19%.

The poor white boys will end up being second-class citizens in their own country. Why? Their people were too busy making fun of stupid Americans to notice the stupid British in their own backyard.

If you couldn't give a shit what other countries think, you wouldn't have posted this.

And I don't think Americans are more stupid than the rest of the educated world.

But a job in America is worth more money than anywhere else.

Mmmm, thank you for the insightful discetion of the state of my countries education system.

Like the vast majority of Britains's state sponsored instituations, our education system took a severe beating during 18 years of Conservative misgovernance (but escaped in far better shape than the battered and underfunded NHS). These problems have been gradually (and I do mean very gradually) easing courtesy of the increased funding provided by Blair's Labour government (whom I am by no means a supporter of but who are legitimately investing great effort and money in re-establishing a world class education sytem) and a remarkable period of sustained economic growth under Gordon Brown's stewardship, made all the more impressive for the fact that the strongest economies in the rest of the Western world have suffered acute recessions from which Britain had been able to remain immune (the United States under the inept fumblings of its current theocracy, and Germany under a contrastingly central left alliance to name but two examples).

Contrary to somebody elses post somehere in this thread, a job in America is not worth more money than anywhere else, as the last time I visited the states or checked the exchange rates the pound was in by far the ascendent position.

As for your anti-immigrationist point (do you import the Daily Mail?), Britain makes a net profit on its annual GDP from it's relatively open immigration policy - an economic fact that beguiles more than enough xenophobes on our own little island without us having to suffer the irritance of you chipping in. And more of these immigrants are intrinsically linked to the welfare state by being employed within it than they are by being 'propped up' by taking handouts from it. The vast numbers of immigrants who are employed within the NHS (from cleaners to neurologists) has been essential in the preservation of what in my opinion is one of our proudest and most admirable institutaions.

And this post comes from somebody who is a natural opponent of both Tony Blair and the very concept of patriotism in general. But perhaps when you start to eduacte your own poor (beyond peddling the myth of creationism, the oath of alliegance and the boundless opportunites of being sacrificed to the armed forces that is) and provide adequate and affordable medical treatment to your own citizens you can start to lecture us Brits on how best to run our own affairs. And if you're from Texas, I'm sure Blair for one would be more than happy to listen.

I couldn't have put it better!

I see that it was the manipulation of the natural deep-seated fears that exist within the human condition that has kept people on board with the administration.

This is because Americans could give a shit what other countries think.

its "couldn't give a shit" not "could give a shit"... this is exactly the kind of thing that does actually make us 'Britons' think you are stupid...

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

There is a reason why you wanted to distance yourself from the king and queen. History books show one of the reasons was your lack of understanding, using and spelling proper English. :)

Some of you complained about ebonics but your version of English is broken down just as bad. ;)

Okay Canada boy..."oo" and "ou" should be pronounced differently. ;)

you just sniff it out from a MILE away, don't ya dunk? :D

Anyway this thread is ridiculous... Irish people have SEVERAL jokes about how stupid we are... particularly the poor Kerry people. I believe the Scots have them too... but we're CLEARLY not so those who say so are obviously stupid themselves and ignorant so why bother wasting so much time over them? I can't comment as to whether Americans actually ARE stupid as I don't know if I've met enough Americans to MAKE that generalisation... but a few of those I've met have been quite intelligent  . Some seemed a little... how do I put it? Ditsy! But I didn't give them an IQ test so I'm not sure if it qualifies as stupid

Only if you're Beckham? That doesn't make any sense. Is "Even" if you're Backham what you meant?

until they are all shipped overseas becos unions feel no one should ever be fired regardless of how incompetent they are... and they are incompetent becos american schools teach them they dont have to try and that whatever they do is ok as long as they keep their self-esteem up.

There in lies the problem. Schools and Universities no longer teach knowledge, they teach you how to make as much money as possible, how to survive in a dog-eat-dog world. True knowledge, the life teachings, and love are almost non-existant.....but hey, I have a new flat screen....
