all your comments make me smile and I wanna jump up and down for joy!
it might sometimes take a little while for me to answer, but I always do that as soon as possible. I write down all of your questions but sometimes there are a lot of them at the same time (which is REALLY NICE) so I have to take my time, you know.
I'm gonna get back to this very soon.
thanks and keep those questions coming! I'm ready!
This is a great thread. Its always good to learn something about another country from one of its natives. The problem is the more I hear about most countries, the more I want to visit them, and life is too short and my bank account is too small to go everywhere.
The most important question that I haven't seen anywhere is what is Finnish beer like?It doesn't matter if you're male, female, or confused; black, white, brown, red, green, yellow; gay, lesbian; redneck cop, stoned; ugly; military style, doggy style; fat, rich or poor; vegetarian or cannibal; bum, hippie, virgin; famous or drunk-you're either an asshole or you're not!

Guess when I was younger it also meant alot to me what other people thought about the counry I live in. Nowadays I don´t really care, cos it seems that nationalism only creates problems. I appreciate our independence and the sacrifices that our grandparents had to do to preserve it, but I could´nt care less what e.g. some Italian politician thinks about our country....the dreams ain't broken down here now,

eMMI, how hot does it get in summer? And how cold in winter? Do you use metric units like normal countries?
well, you go ahead and start one.
it gets warm in the summer.not as warm as in other countries might be, but still so warm people complain it's too hot.
it's really cold in winter. in Lapland it's colder than in the south but it's still cold here too. cold as in we have snow and most of the lakes freeze up.
yes, we use metric units. none of that inch/foot crap the Americans have!
sorry American-folks!"Don't be faint-hearted, I have a solution! We shall go and commandeer some small craft, then drift at leisure until we happen upon another ideal place for our waterside supper with riparian entertainments."0 -

oh yeah, I just noticed that I forgot to answer that question.sorry Scubascott, check this post!
well, I must say that I hate beer!
all the different beers I've tasted are horrible. but so are all of the foreign beers I've tasted too.. (I think one was German..) not my cup of tea!!
but we actually don't have that many different Finnish beers I think. but as the world is getting smaller and smaller also Finland has developed a taste in foreign beers.so we import some, dunno what, but some.

Beer is of the best ways to judge a country. You can really sum up a culture by tasting their beer I reckon. Doesn't say much for America . . . their beer is bloody awful. It doesn't matter if you're male, female, or confused; black, white, brown, red, green, yellow; gay, lesbian; redneck cop, stoned; ugly; military style, doggy style; fat, rich or poor; vegetarian or cannibal; bum, hippie, virgin; famous or drunk-you're either an asshole or you're not!

I can't speak for Iran or China, because I've been to either of those places or tasted their beers. But Greek beer is awesome! You can get a half litre bottle of Mythos for about 0.7 euro in most supermarkets and street stands, and its bloody good beer.It doesn't matter if you're male, female, or confused; black, white, brown, red, green, yellow; gay, lesbian; redneck cop, stoned; ugly; military style, doggy style; fat, rich or poor; vegetarian or cannibal; bum, hippie, virgin; famous or drunk-you're either an asshole or you're not!

I second that. Greek beer is bloody good and CHEAP! It is possible that it tasted so good because it was over 40 degrees outside though.0

I thought that this was such a good topic I started a new thread for it. I feel bad for straying away from finland in this one.
eMMI is Finland a religious country? Do most people go to church regularly? I assume pretty much everyone there is christian. Is that right? It doesn't matter if you're male, female, or confused; black, white, brown, red, green, yellow; gay, lesbian; redneck cop, stoned; ugly; military style, doggy style; fat, rich or poor; vegetarian or cannibal; bum, hippie, virgin; famous or drunk-you're either an asshole or you're not!

Also, how multi-cultural is Finland? Any good asian restaurants?0 -
i visited finland this february, travelled all the way from helsinki up to rovaniemi (on a polar circle) and all i can say is that it's the most fuckin' expensive country i have ever been into!0

it's okay since your conversation didn't last that long.
hmm. well, pretty religious. and yes, we're Christians, Lutherans.
maybe not most people go to the church regularly.. some of the elderly folks..
but on different holidays, like Christmas and Easter, the churches are somewhat packed."Don't be faint-hearted, I have a solution! We shall go and commandeer some small craft, then drift at leisure until we happen upon another ideal place for our waterside supper with riparian entertainments."0 -

compared to other countries, I admit it, we're not cheap..
but visit Norway someday. that place is extremely expensive!"Don't be faint-hearted, I have a solution! We shall go and commandeer some small craft, then drift at leisure until we happen upon another ideal place for our waterside supper with riparian entertainments."0 -
sourdough wrote:Also, how multi-cultural is Finland? Any good asian restaurants?
as other countries, we're also getting more and more multi-cultural. which I think is really good!
I must say that I haven't visited that many asian restaurants.
there's one in my hometown, Chinese, and it's really good!
in other/bigger cities there are more of them, and as in everywhere, some good some bad.
multi-culturality.. we have thousands of people from different countries living here. either as refugees or immigrants. but I think we could do better..
the Finns unfortunately aren't always the most tolerant people, which is dislike greatly!! but over the last few years rasism has decreased a bit. so, we're learning!
btw. did you folks know we have two official languages?
yup, Finnish and Swedish."Don't be faint-hearted, I have a solution! We shall go and commandeer some small craft, then drift at leisure until we happen upon another ideal place for our waterside supper with riparian entertainments."0 -
since this is a music forum.,.. why dont you tell us some thing about the music scene in finnland... there's nightwish i know.,.. but how about bands which sing in the vernacular language and what about traditional finnish folk music ??I have faced it, A life wasted...
