i posted before about claims from insiders in the reagan administration that they offered Iran the weapons for hostages if they didn't release the hostages to carter and most of the responses were disbelief...there's something on the history channel about presidents and according to it the hostages were released during his inauguration! so...since it's common knowledge that he DID trade arms for hostages obvioulsy he had to be in contact w/ Iran prior to make the deal!!

'The following fifty-two remaining hostages were held captive until January 20, 1981'

'On January 20, 1981, twenty minutes after President Reagan's inaugural address, the hostages were formally released into U.S. custody, having spent 444 days in captivity.'

so, he was only president for 20 minutes and that was enough time to make the arms deal?? give me a fucking break!

I bet several insiders would say they didn't trade weapons. Another success for a Republican president trying to be turned into a negative by the radical leftwing. I bet Reagan had nothing to do with winning the Cold War either. Was he really even an actor? I bet all that footage was faked. Do I really even exist? Am I really sitting here typing? What if I'm really a robot spy put here by Richard Nixon. Oh crap, I am! No Richard, don't cut my power, don't cut my pow...

anybody who thinks reagan had anything to do with winning the cold war needs to read a book. seriously. and people wonder why the world sees us as arrogant. reagan had more good things fall in his lap than a hilton sister.

Hey, if some liberal wrote it, it must be true! If some insider said it, it must be true! If a Republican says it, it must be false. That's your fucking mantra. Greatest president since FDR. You all love FDR I bet. Don't hear much about the Japanese internment camps on here.

it was a lot of insiders that wrote it...in eastern europe. where they went through hell protesting and eventually got what they wanted. anyway, reagan was not a great president. his legacy is supposedly winning the cold war. his real legacy is the debt he left us with.

national debt 1776-1980 = (accumulated debt during reagan admin. x 4)

Nice little add-on there. It's funny you don't mention Clinton who literally and figuratively had good things fall in his lap. It's debatable whether Monica Lewinksy is a good thing. But, it is funny all the crap that he laid in Bush's lap, mainly a recession and terrorists running around with zero accountability. But again, I'm sure there is a book that will prove me wrong. If you think the economy in the 80's wasn't good because of Reagan, then you have to agree the same for Clinton.

But we've hijacked the thread, back to the Iran hostage topic. Personally, it was 25 years ago, and for a party that wants to "move on" you sure do dwell in the past. You can't even regain control of Congress in a landslide because you are living in the past. No ideas for the future.

i dont know what clinton had fall in his lap (other than monica's open mouth). the economy in the 80's was good, i concede. i was only talking about foreign policy. and blaming clinton for bush's terrible lapse in terrorism control? ridiculous, there are a hundred books to disprove that. anyway, im just sick of conservatives thinking reagan was this model of perfection. economy was good, foreign policy was good but overrated, and debt was ridiculously bad. clinton had good economy, good foreign policy, and an actual surplus. but we can't get over the fact that he got a blowjob. he's not the first president to get a blowjob people.

maybe if clinton didn't have to deal w/ the investigation into monica he coudl've focused more on terrorism...in fact, clinton did sign an order for the assasination of bin laden...he had unmanned drones looking for him, and they found him...while bush was president...and let him get away. bush also cut counter terrorism funding when he first took office.

also, reagan won the cold war by outspending the russians...they couldn't compete w/ the arms race, especially when reagan started trying to militarize space. i guess the encarta encyclopedia is not a good enough source for you but even that says reagan exaggerated the russians capabilities for bigger defense spending. plz tell me what an acceptable source is for you...you don't hesitate to claim they aren't good enough but you never seem to back that view up w. anything

and are you saying that we never traded arms for hostages to Iran??? you never heard of the Iran/Contra affair??? so while it's common knowledge they did, in fact, trade arms for hostages and those hostages were released a mere 20 minutes after he was president, please explain when they set the deal up to trade the arms for hostages?

it's funny your mantra is 'if it's in a book/said by an insider it must be true!' well where the hell do you get your info from? just a thought's good enough for you, i guess.

and i'm not a democrat, only idiots participate in partisan politics...ohhhh wait, that actually explains a lot... both parties are worthless when it comes to the average person, they only help their investors and special interest groups that donated to their campaigns.

i guess congress is lying when their own report says we traded arms for hostages. so we know that to be a fact. we also know to be a fact that they were released 20 minutes after he was inaugarated. so plz do tell when they set this deal up?

books and historical fact = bad

corporate media catch phrases and undeserved praise = good

they said reagan was great so it must be true! the economy was good but at what costs? the income gap grew larger and larger...so this economic growth was only good for the lucky few. And our foreign policy during this time concerning central america was hideous whereas we committed countless human rights violations and supported and funded the overthrowing of democratic governments so nothing would get in our way of raping their homelands to boost our economy and make private investors quite wealthy. so who exactly was reagan so great for?

where'd ya read that? that's right, ya didn't...

and what did reagan do for terrorism other than funding them? why did congress tell them not to support the contras again? isn't it ironic al qaeda was created while the republicans had bin laden on the cia payroll?

and i thought your guys mantra was we shouldn't listen to the political views of actors and ppl in the entertainment industry and yet you guys hold a 2nd rate actor as your greatest political figure! oh the irony!! :D

Plenty of books have been written on Clintons presidential failure. Try "dereliction of Duty" or better yet just go to a Barnes and Nobles.

I dont mind actors who speak their minds..i just dont like when they come down from their mansions like Barbra Streisand and try to tell us how to live.

ummmm...this is a thread about reagan and the arms for hostages fiasco...not quite sure how hillary clinton figures into all of this...i guess you have no relavent reply to anything else i've said so you have to resort to one of your nonsensical rants of yours. but feel free to do all you can to stop her from winning, i wouldn't vote for her anyway

so...back to the topic of the thread...if reagan traded arms for hostages and the hostages were released 20 min after he was inaugarated when, exactly, did they broker this deal w/ iran?

Fuck that. Clinton didn't get him because he was already sleeping with Bush 41 and Cheney needed someone to blame for his future 9/11 scheme.

The bi-partisan 9-11 commission investigated this and reported on it. It is on page 110 in the second paragraph second line. “The Commission found no credible evidence that this so."

But, it is funny all the crap that he laid in Bush's lap, mainly a recession and terrorists running around with zero accountability.

it's also funny that that same evil terrorist was given his money, weapons, and training by... oh yeah... ronald reagan. good call dutch, anything to kill russkies! dont blame clinton for bin laden, reagan created him. also, if dubya just got dealt a bad hand and clinton blew it with bin laden... how come bush hasnt been able to catch bin laden? could it be he was distracted by iraq, in the same manner that the clinton sex life witchhunt kept him from attending to national issues?

reagan was a dirty son of a bitch and the most over-rated president in history.

Using similar logic to the original post, we can now blame Clinton for 9/11 (of which I do think he played a significant role) since it happened so early in Bush's presidency.

Reagan may or may not have been a great president, but in appearance he was much more "presidential" than Bush and even Clinton.

    how so???

can you explain when reagan set up the arms for hostages deal when the hostages were released 20 min after he was inaugarated? obviously they were in contact w/ iran BEFORE he became president...so then why wait to release them?

Assuming Reagan made this deal to win the election, why would he have them wait until the inaugaration? They could have been released as soon as early November, since the election was all ready decided at that point. It seems that waiting would draw attention to the whole deal or was this just the Iranians way of fucking with him? Or was Reagans lucky number 444? Or maybe Carter, after learning of the Reagan plot, made a second secret deal to delay the release until the inaugaration so that the whole nefarious plot would be exposed?

When he delivered speeches, he had more of a "presidential" presence about him than the other two.

No - I can't explain that. It doesn't even make sense even if he did talk to them earlier because, why wait all the way until the inauguration? He could have had them released after the election.

Furthermore, why does it even matter if he talked to them before or after if he somehow managed to get them released?

The logic of the original post was circumstantial evidence that the crime occurred. If so blame remains on the perpetrators, Reagan and Bin Laden in your example.
