'Gandhi' in Palestine for peaceful revolution
    By Indo-Asian News Service

New York, April 8 (IANS) Wealthy American businessmen have joined hands with the Palestinian leadership to bring the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi to the war-torn country through Richard Attenborough's film on the leader.

"Gandhi", starring Ben Kingsley in the tile role and made by Attenborough over two decades ago, is striking a chord among the Palestinians, The New York Times reported from Ramallah in the West Bank.

The film's screening at the Palace of Culture was attended by hundreds of people, including Palestinian cabinet members.

To lend weight to the screening of the film dubbed in Arabic was Kingsley who was visiting as a guest of Palestine's Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas. "The force of truth is irreducible, and this is the centre of the message," Kingsley was quoted as saying at a news conference.

The organisers of the Gandhi Project plan to show the film across the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in villages and refugee camps. It will also be shown in refugee camps in Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. Kingsley said the message was non-political and they were not taking positions in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The movie has set off a debate within Palestinians whether Gandhi's passive resistance would work in their conflict. Some say it would, others say it would not because of the kind of enemy they faced. Many Palestinians say they have tried non-violent resistance but it has not worked in the past.

The plight of the Palestinians is really not comparable to that of the Indians under British control.

One of the reasons MLK was so great was his faith that Americans could be trusted to do the right thing - and because of that - non violence would work.

Probably something like a multicultural, smooth talking, hipper version of manbearpig.

Hmm tough one. Can we outsource to other planets?
Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

One group of people oppressed by another, more powerful group of people.
