    God I don't even know. I'm with you on the problems with it, and even more than that the tshuvah explicitly forbids gay sex because they can't find a way around the pasuk, but it's pretty clear that everyone expects that part of the tshuvah to be ignored, so if JTS starts ordaining gay rabbis they are basically going to implicating themselves in a lie, and what's more one that's an isur caret. So yeah, I'm with you in being pretty conflicted and not quite knowing how to respond. But nice job trying to convey the subtleties to amcha on the thread.

    Word. I didn't even know the details of the tshuvah. But I totally agree with you. Its so complicated because I want to agree with the tshuvah so badly, but I just feel like the did it in the worst way possible.

    I don't really have a strong opinion on allowing gay leaders from a strictly human point of view but it does seem like a strange decision from a theological perspective. The OT clearly forbids such a notion even being entertained (they were stoned to death for instance) so I would like to see this being defended from a purely theological persepctive (as distinct from what most of us would think it is fair from our own moral viewpoint).
