B. Palin's pregnancy -- Is it fair to discuss? Is it relevant?

Brain of J.Lo wrote:If these are private matters for her family, why shouldn't they be for mine?
It should be a private matter for you, me, her and everyone else.
A person's sexuality, sex-life.....personal life are their own business and none of mine. It has no bearing on any other facet of their lives.
Just like the John Edwards situation, just like all these Republican closet homosexuals and crossdressers, just like Bill Cinton and the infamous blow jobs; it's a matter to be handled privately between them, their spouses and family. It is no one else's business.
American's should learn to keep their noses out of other people's personal lives and concern themselves with their own personal lives.
The only thing this proves is exactly what I have been saying for years.....
Human Beings and Human Beings in their teenager years WILL have sex.
We as Human Beings are sexual beings. It is our nature ...it is our instinct.
This Puritanical bullshit which teaches abstinence, is ignorant and completely oblivious to our natural selves.
Teenagers will always have sex regardless of they are thought, told and bullied to do.
The only way to prevent it is to segregate the two genders. But many will still experiment and have sex......with members of their same gender.
Or you can make it illegal for teenagers to have sex and impose some kind of severe penalty......like they do in some Islamic cultures with a death penalty.
Certainly putting teenagers to death for following their natural instinct seems quite barberic, savage and ignorant.
Teach teenagers about sex, give them access to different options for safe sex and encourage them to educate themselves.
And you know what? There will still be teenage sex and pregnencies.
But maybe if all these self-righteous, viciously judgemental, narrow-minded and ignorant puritanical people stopped perceiving and projecting sex as some kind of tragedy and terrible sin; maybe.....just maybe we wouldn't have so many emotionally damaged teenagers and adults in this country.
You project a positive and productive perspective on sexuality. And even if your teenager does get pregnant; most will be able to retain a healthy self-esteem and confidence. As well as emotionally conquer the obstacles in life and eventually become self-sufficient.
When you condemn, attack and belittle it destroys what little confidence and self-esteem kids have developed at such a delicate and fragile time in their lives and could damage them for life.0 -
MrSmith wrote:i agree with you there. i'm not sure how they could have hidden it for long.
That's my point. Why wait and let something that, if stated up front, would be nothing more than a minor story turn into a big story. I believe trhey didn't say anything because it truly is no one's business, but in the world of politics we know that is not the case. A politicians life is never private. The media examinesw every aspect of their life. Look at Edwards, the man wasn't even running for office and the media ate that shit up. Granted Edwards is an adult and it's more acceptable to go after him than some kid but you get the idea. So regardless of their reasoning for not disclosing the public will believe what they want to, or what the media tells them to believe. I persoanlly don't care about her daughters pregnancy and don't care if this story eventually benefits Obama or McCain. I'm not voting for either of them so I could give a shit. I'm looking at this from an unbaised view and how it can possibly be perceived by the masses."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -
I just can't believe what a terrible desperation decision like this was made. I could care less about the pregnancy, and something like this will be a hot news story for a few days than disappear.
But, according to news reports since Friday, we've learned:
1) Palin wasn't even seriously considered until a few days before the pick
2) McCain only talked to her once before picking her (maybe twice)
3) She is under an ethics investigation
4) She is a half-term governor, with her only other experience being a small town mayor. This pick takes their one good issue (experience) pretty much off the table for the McCain camp.
This thing has Harriet Myers written all over it.
And there have already been rumblings from other "more-experience" republican women about the campaign apparently being so set on picking a women, but picking one with no experience over them.My whole life
was like a picture

Is it the same liberal media that has treated the questions about Obama being a closet Muslim with seriousness? Is it the same liberal media that McCain lovingly and jokingly called "his base"? The examples could continue if you want.
So don't please me just cause there are some pretty striking contradictions to your argument. There's only one MSNBC, by the way.
Ok....agree to disagree. By the way, I can't stand to watch too much Fox News due to it's obvious bias either...I just can't find a news station that seems to be balanced at all.hippiemom = goodness0 -

No it doesn't. There is a huge difference between an appointed position and an (essentially) elected position.0 -
cincybearcat wrote:Yes you're excusing them for attacking like vultures.
And yes, when you 3 years ago lambast people for things, and then you go all Entertainment Tonight while a Cat 3 hurricane is hitting near New Orleans again...there's something wrong with that.
Anyhow, the media doesn't care about black people. Only white people having babies.
The media doesn't care about anyone. They only care about ratings. So if the teenage daughter of the VP candidate is going to bring more ratings than black people in NOLA then the media will focus on that.
Lastely no I'm not excusing them for acting like vultures I'm only stating that this is what they do wether I think it's wrong or not. My opinion matters little when it comes to media reporting because as long as the general public wants to hear all the gossip about our presidential candidates and their families they will continue to act like vultures."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -
cincybearcat wrote:Here's another interesting point...RNC cancels most activities for Gustav...liberal media reports on 17 year-old daughter of Rep. VP candidate being pregnant as Gustav hits. Hmmmmmm.....who doesn't care about black people?
Why was the news of the pregnancy leaked during Gustav and why wasn't it announced the same day as the Governor's selection. Of course, because of the RNC's respect for black people. Now that's priceless.SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.0 -

What's wrong with that? I wasn't raised to be that way but it's the way I turned out. And I love it! It's a lifestyle choice, I've made a real commitment to it.And if there's something you'd like to do. Oh, just let me continue to blame you.

They're people, they are just going to be biases no matter what. I just don't see the need to make them so apparent. If there is a liberal bias on CNN, maybe. But what I see on Foxnews that is upsetting is that there is outright commentary, but it is not labeled as commentary; it is described as news. That's pretty dangerous, in my opinion.0 -

I was watcing the CNN Hurricane coverage, and there was a lot of commentary about the intelligence level of those that stayed behind... yet they never mentioned it was commentary- it was presented by field reporters and anchors... and even meteorologists.0 -

Well that's stupidity on their part. I guess I was referring primarily to the campaign/political coverage.0 -

Not that it's right for journalists to do that on the air, but I still agree with them. After what happened with Katrina I would definitely question the intelligence level of those that stayed behind."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -

Well I can agree with you on that one. I can't fucking stand obermen. He is such a tool. I absolutely love that Scarsborrough called him and Shuster out on the air."When one gets in bed with government, one must expect the diseases it spreads." - Ron Paul0 -
The Republican smear machine would be all over this for weeks. It's about time the Democrats grew some balls and fight back -- because it WORKS, just look at the last 8 years. The right would be all over the hedonistic liberal lifestyle that lead to this pregnancy. Americans fall for this petty shit like candy. The Cons on here are crying like little babies because it's happpening to their party for once, not because it's a 17 year old girl who is pregnant.0

Brain of J.Lo wrote:If these are private matters for her family, why shouldn't they be for mine?
indeed!
it absolutely SHOULD be a private matter, period.
however, palin's political stances on such issues are fair game. the two CAN and should be seperate. and, quite obviously, her dauther's actions...are her daughter's....and thus zero bearing on her necessarily, and should have nothing to do with her political life. in fact, i hope this issue doesn't take the focus off the REAL issues of importance...and that does not include yet another teen pregnancy.Stay with me...
Let's just breathe...

Huh...you are one special person. You can not only determine labels for everyone, but you can also read their minds and determine their intentions.
