Thats my complaint on the Extreme Liberal Blogs/Media... they ran and perpetuated an untrue story.

Well, we still haven't seen the McCain campaign repudiate the rumors about Obama being a Muslim and such, and that is just as terrible. I think there was a poll out that estimates approximately 1 in 11 people think Obama was sworn into office on the Koran. It doesn't make it right from either side, but I think it's important to point out the Right's failings in this regard also, and I should note that Obama has come out to distance himself from these rumors and admonish those accountable. McCain, as far as I know to this date has done no such thing.

No, they wouldnt have laid off. Not at all. Doesnt make it right though.

My belief is the only reason this was addressed NOW is that they had to combat the bullshit speculation regarding Sarah's youngest son that i think we can all agree now is patently untrue?

Thats my complaint on the Extreme Liberal Blogs/Media... they ran and perpetuated an untrue story.

Which ultimately forced Palin to disprove them.

It would have eventually surfaced. They did it now because there where bigger stories and they figured the GOP Convention and Gustav would have made this a page 6 story. If it truely wasn't that big of a deal and everyone in her town knew then why not just say it on Friday.

    Couple things..

what 17 year old girl that gets knocked up doesnt either
    A. Lie to themselves they are going to marry the guy
    B. Lie to their parents they are going to marry the guy

What do you want them to say? Do you want them to come out and say "Boy this little whore Loves COck!! But hey, at least he's white!!!"

So I take it you feel the same way about Obama's mom who gave birth to Obama born 8 months and a week after her 18th birthday?

I can't really see that working...

"Obama will lead this country in the wrong direction, it's not change you can believe in. Senator McCain has the experience necessary to be president. So let's put our country first and elect McCain in November...by the way, I'm going to be a grandmother in a few months by my teenage daughter. McCain 08!"

However, I agree that they probably shouldn't have looked like they were trying to bury it. By looking like they were trying to bury it, they probably made it worse.

repudiating baseless speculation wasnt done by Obama either.
Obama did not distance himself from the rumors EVER. He didnt say a word about it until It was officially announced...

which is the smart move... address baseless speculation just lends it credibility... which is why McCain should not (and has not) addressed the Obama muslim thing, and Obama never addressed the Sarah Palin is the Grandmother thing.

For the girl's sake, I really really REALLY hope she actually wants to marry this guy, and is not being pressured to do so for doing anything otherwise would be political suicide this year. That would be absolutely fucking terrible of them to do, to pressure her into marriage to make the ticket look good.

So your saying you would want your teenage daughter to endure all the media attention simply because you want to be VP. The media is not going t6o be as nice as Obama. They have no fucking scrupples. They only care about ratings. If dragging this kid through the mud boosts ratings they will do exactly that. The last thing I would want is for my 17 year old kid to be portrayed as some type of trashy whore all over the news.
i dont think the mother should have to change her career path because of what the media will or wont do. the bottom feeding media shouldnt stop one from running for office. that would be cowardly to me.

hopefully they can weather this or ignore it as the National Inquirer bullshit it is.

Thats my point to those saying she is Whoring out her daughter.
She had to prove somehow that the 5 month old is not her grandchild.. and saying Bristol is pregnant proves that... and they came out and said it on the day that ultimately would have resulted in the least coverage.(but still enough to end the silly speculation)

That would be an even bigger mistake.

I think when baseless speculation is successful enough that 1 in 11 people believe it is the truth, it requires some confrontation. They shouldn't "leave it alone." Remember what happened in 2004? Kerry left the Swift Boat ads alone, claiming they were beneath the political discourse, and it was one of the things that cost him the election. They need to be dealt with and dealt with harshly.
  • i gotta say i'm far more sympathetic to Palin than i was last week. but i'm still sure as hell not voting for them :).
  • Just because someone promotes abstinence only doesn't mean they don't explain birth control to their kids. My mother preached abstinence only yet I was aware of birth control as well. Like someone else said, knowing about birth control doesn't mean they use it. IF that was the case then I'm sure our abortion rate would go down.

I guess in reality, what this shows, is that abstinence is the only way to ensure you don't get pregnant, huh? ;)

Was the swift boat stuff ever 100% disproven?
And there is a big difference between ignoring nationally aired TV spots and mainstream debates and baseless internet blogs and speculation.

There are other ways of proving that the kid is yours. This has nothing to do with the liberal blogosphere and their bullshit stories. This story was going to hit the news this week and it would have been bad if some reporter broke the news to the US on the front page of the NY Times or Washington Post. Yes what they did was strategic by releasing the story when they did but they didn't do it to disprove baseless rumors about Palin and her youngest son.

Again I have no problem with her daughjter being pregnant. If I was a McCain supporter I would still be a McCain supporter. My problem is with how they handled the situation. It appears as if they where trying to hide the fact, regardless if they where or not. It can also be seen as the campaign trying to divert attention from the ethics investigation into Palin and her hiring a lawyer. Again it could be nothing but it doesn't look good to the public for all this news about her coming out so soon after she is selected as the VP.

you have to put your career on hold and stop everything because your kid gets knocked up? jesus christ, some of the left wing people here act like a teenager and her family should be shamed for life for getting pregnant. its not that huge of a deal. bad yes, but hardly the end of the world. happens all the time. i doubt conservatives will care much, since she didnt abort. if anything its fine cuz she's getting married and raising the kid.

I agree, Bristol being pregnant is not that big of a deal in the long run- but Sarah Palin could've gone on being governor of Alaska and in that way spared her daughter the abject humiliation that is coming her way.

I'm sorry, I happen to be one of these parents who believes that certain things *do* get sacrificed when you are a responsible parent. No mother should deliberately put her child through what Bristol Palin is enduring.
And to force your child into marriage for the sake of your ambitions? Great idea.

And I think it's appropriate to "hide the fact" by not coming out with it. It's noboady's business really.

It would have been bad but it would have died over quickly. Gustav hit a few days later, the GOP convention starting right after that. By today the story would have been died in the water. Now instead of people talking about Palin's pregnant daughter for a day or two, you have people questioning why they didn't come forth from the get go. Even if they where not trying to cover it up it looks like they where.

I think you're actually agreeing with me in a lot of ways...
It allowed them to kill two birds with one stone (the baseless blog speculation as well as announcing Bristols pregnancy before the media "broke" the story) on a day that the fewest possible # of people would be paying attention.

If anyone was whored out for this whole thing it was Hurricane Gustav.
