I cannot believe those heartless democrat bastards want to end corporate subsidies and welfare to these suffering oil giants.
Oil giant Exxon Mobil Corp. on Thursday posted the largest annual profit by a U.S. company — $39.5 billion — even as earnings for the last quarter of 2006 declined 4 percent.
The 2006 profit topped Exxon Mobil's own previous record of $36.13 billion set in 2005.

What was thier profit margin?
Lets compare that to other industries first. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -

How about neither?0 -
How about everyone that is irate about this, not buy gas from exxon/mobile? Granted some other oil company will just make more money, but when their earnings are announced, we can avoid them too... eventually the big oil companies will cut their prices...
or we can just sit around and bitch and keep buying their gas.My whole life

Exactly. I'm no oil company fan, but why is it that this is about the only industry who gets criticized for profits. If they make huge profits it is because we are on their sauce. We make the profits for them. If they raise the price of gas and we keep buying it, why the hell would they lower it just because the production price gets cheaper? It's business 101.
I missed the part where "cheap gas" is listed in the constitution (because a lot of people act like it is there).blackredyellow wrote:How about everyone that is irate about this, not buy gas from exxon/mobile? Better yet, we can use less gasoline. Anyone complaining about the cost of gasoline should think about their own lifestyle (and "conveniece"):
-Do you drive on trips that could be walked or biked in minutes?
-Do you drive a gas guzzler?
-Do you "chain" your trips (as oppsed to going home several times a day between errands)?
-Have you ever examined the idea of carpooling (think about cutting the work related wear/tear on your car in half)?
-How far do you live from work?
-Do you live in a place that has any sidewalks or access to destinations not by car?
Don't like big oil company profits? Stop making it so easy on them.I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.0 -

Absolutely...
We should use less gasoline and energy in general. Realistically we won't be weened off of oil for a long time, so just not supporting the huge conglomerate companies at all will do more to send the quickest message then say cutting your consumption by 10% or whatever. My whole life

Yeah. One problem with alot of people in this country is that they are always looking down upon people making money. I don't understand, i always viewed making money as a good thing.
I'm pretty impressed that made much. Congrats to them.
And, no i don't own any oil stock or anything but i'm always impressed by good business."Be what you want to be, see what you came to see"0 -

I second that. We should vote on it. Wouldn't it be great to have a democracy that would allow us to vote on how to spend other peoples' money and then feel good about performing a charitable act?"I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/080 -

Yep - that's what I always say. Don't be surprised when there is no response to that one.The only people we should try to get even with...

I really need to get more involved with the in the oil industry. Especially since there isn't much left."Sarcasm: intellect on the offensive"

According to their Worldwide Giving Report on their website (http://www.exxonmobil.com/Corporate/Citizenship/gcr_contributionsworldwide_report.asp) in 2005 they gave $132.8 million, while making a profit of $36.13 billion. By my math that is 0.3% of their profit donated to charity.
To put that into perspective, if you make $50,000 a year (gross) and you donate 0.3% of that, you will be donating $150.00.... keep in mind after taxes and expenses your profit will be nowhere near $50,000.My whole life

I'm saying something about giving everything. How dare you keep any for yourself....you're just as selfish as these Exxon crooks. The very computer you're typing on could be sold and the money used to feed 100 Somali children. You don't need it.0 -
