    I believe it was 1996 after the Port Arthur Massacre here in Australia which also resulted in the buy back and banning of particular weapons.
    From memory the man who rampaged in Dunblane was inspired by Martin Bryant the Port Arthur gunman.

    If dunblane had happened in the United states and if the US had a population of 5,062,011 (scotland) and not 298,444,215, handguns would probably be illegal here, too.

    Many people devote their lives to limit or ban guns in the US. I guess you have not seen "Bowling for Columbine" by Michael Moore. Sadly, it's very difficult to overturn a constitutional ammendment giving citizens the right to bare arms no matter how archaic, this right may be. The sad truth is that firearms are a huge business, and when politics and business mix, democracy is weakened and even destroyed.
