I heard abou this...at the time it was only a top ten list, but it included John Lennon's "Imagine" and 'all songs by Rage Against the Machine'.
Censorship? In this country? Naa....0 -
well looking at the names of these songs, I would say the answer is obvious?
is it really that big a deal if some songs were not played for a few days following the nations worse tragedy?0 -
Who gives a shit, it doesn't stop stupid people from listening to corporate radio.
You know, the kind of stations that play the RATM and PJ stuff.www.myspace.com/olafvonmastadon0 -

but a lot of these bands are anti-establishment. You don't see any country songs promoting nationalism on there, although i don't know if clear channel owns any country stations-. still some of the songs are anti-gov't, anti-war, ant-establishment. it's a form of propaganda. it's not always what they tell you, often its what they don't allow you to hear or see.0 -
After looking at the list I wonder how Steve Miller escaped?
Goodbye to all my friends at home
Goodbye to people Ive trusted
Ive got to go out and make my way
I might get rich you know I might get busted
But my heart keeps calling me backwards
As I get on the 707
Ridin high I got tears in my eyes
You know you got to go through hell
Before you get to heaven
Big ol jet airliner
Dont carry me too far away
Oh, oh big ol jet airliner
Cause its here that Ive got to staywww.myspace.com/olafvonmastadon0 -
and PBS won't air Debbie Does Dallas.
A private enterprise deciding not to play a song is not a form of censorship.
"If a person heard one of these songs what did Clear Channel think would happen?" Possibly turn off the radio or get bad feelings about Clear Channel that may impact Clear Channel's future profitability.“One good thing about music,
when it hits you, you feel to pain.
So brutalize me with music.”

apparently they are only anti establishment enough to sell millions of records and be a part of several of the biggest hulking media companies in the world. I find it hilarious that people that pertain to be so "anti capitalism" would make millions and millions of dollars off of their talent in this brilliant competitive system and continue to "Rage" against it. Then again that's why they've made the money in the first place so anyway. Hey I'm a fan of them too, it's just something that's always been kind of funny to me. CC owns own the radio stations and they decide what to play, that's not really censorship, it's owners consious decisions. Censorship comes from the government, it's not like they said you can't own that album or blast it from your stereo speakers.
Clear Channel is a dick company run by giant dicks, the short of it is that they didn't want to be offensive to thier audience. The long of it is that they are a giant company run by accountants and corporate whores. Every move that Clear Channel makes is a move that they hope eventually nets them more money or marketshare thats it, it's not political at all it's PC Corporate Bullshit. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -
i'm sorry, but if you can't tell why clear channel would ban a song called 'war pigs' from its playlist then you need to think harder.hear my name

Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerers of deaths construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds, oh lord yeah!
Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor
Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait till their judgement day comes, yeah!
Now in darkness, world stops turning
As the war machine keeps burning
No more war pigs of the power
Hand of God has sturck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings
All right now!
Washington was on a march to war. They didn't need people reminding the masses what war was really all about.0 -

there isn't much difference between corporate and gov't bullshit. they are tied to eachother in so many ways they are almost indestinguishable, as institutions. Pulling songs by a corporation as big as Clear Channel amounts to censorship, for all intents and purposes.0 -

And even if the list did exist, Clear Channel can certainly decide what songs to play or not play. They do it every day."I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/080 -

Oh man, you are reaching for something that just isn't there.
You think fuckin metalheads who listen to a band fronted by "The prince of Darkness" really introspectively understand the meanings to their favorite songs? And the fact that listening to a SONG will make you realize the horrors of war?
I mean, you can have all your conspiracy theories, but this is just too much.
And Faith no More, totally does a better version anyway.www.myspace.com/olafvonmastadon0 -

there was a general theme to most of the songs banned tho, a certain point of view that Clear Channel didn't want the public to see, as Washington was busy tying Saddam to 9/11 and misleading the public in their effort to invade Iraq.
music is part of our culture, it has more of an impact than you might think. Some of the popular uprisings in the 70's were led in large part by songs. Not saying they were THE reason, but they sure helped get the right ideas into people's heads.0 -
"Clear Channel Worldwide Incorporated, head-quartered in San Antonio, is the single largest radio station owner in the United States, running over 1,200 stations. Ex-CEO of AMFM Communications, Tom Hicks, who purchased the Texas Rangers from Bush in 1998, is now the acting vice chair of Clear Channel. Clear Channel stations around the nation have orchestrated the banning of Dixie Chick tunes from their play-lists due to their anti-Bush sentiments. "

I see no problem with this either. Forcing a private company to play shit like the Dixie Chicks, or anything for that matter, would be even worse than the "censorship" that people are trying to project into a non-situation here.0 -

shouldn't radio stations play music that people want to hear? should they be deciding what we listen too? with 1200 radio stations Clear Channel kinda determines what is played and what isn't, for a lot of areas in the US.
even if they ban Creed I'm against it, and there are no words to express how very much I hate Creed.0
