LOL. This is not true. Sure Given to Fly and Going to California have similarities but not enough for legal action. Besides, they kinda joked about it when PJ and Robert Plant performed Going to Califorina and few years back.

i still think the similarities between these songs are not even worth mentioning. i can barely tell (i just listened to both right now). people talk about the similarity like its Ice Ice Baby and Under Pressure.

LZ would have alot of nerve to sue over this.....considering they were sued for stealing the bassline in "Dazed and Confused".

Not to mention all the thievery involved in "The Lemon Song" , "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", and "Travelling Riverside Blues".

Uh, I didn't hear about this yet but, isn't Zepp a little late on this one. Given to Fly came out in '98 and they're just getting to it now. Ridiculous. I don't think it will "fly" HAHA

Seriously Zeppelin did some blatant thefts of other artists, google Led Zeppelin stolen music etc..

Check out this link, the sound bit is from the Howard Stern show. I was listening to that show in particular when they "expose" Zeppelin. It's blatant theft.

Listen to the interview with the comparisons to the originals they stole from, it will totally change your opinions of Led Zeppelin.

Maybe they should be worried about a Lawsuit from Lewis Spence?

"The lyrics of the song reflected Plant's current reading. The singer had been poring through the works of the British antiquarian Lewis Spence, and later cited Spence's Magic Arts in Celtic Britain as one of the sources for the lyrics to the song."

If thats the case, then they can use the dough they get from PJ to pay LS.

There was indeed talk of LZ taking legal action back in 98 when the album came out and the song was released as a single, but I don't think anything ever came of it.
I suggest you step out on your porch...run away my son...see it all...oh see the world // I wait on the porch...hoping someday I'll be let in

There is no way in sweeeet hell the zep would sue pj, theyre legends. Theyre too smart for being remembered as suing other legends like PJ.

EDIT: I saw Blind Melon in 94...fuck was it awesome and they did the best fucking rendition of going to california I had ever heard.

  • Page & Plant were getting ready to tour when Yield came out - I remember an interview back then about this. They both laughed about it. The similarities are obvious, but they don't care.

And yes, it was awesome when PJ left the stage playing Given to Fly and Plant & the Strange Sensation slowly came on and carried it into Going to California. Amazing show.

no not true.. the songs don't even sound that similar to be honest. Plant is friends with the band now with him opening at the HOB's and pretty sure he attended the London 06 show?

wow... the clip from howard stern is REALLY incriminating... i heard a few of those before but never knew the extent of their plagerism... definitely lose alot of respect for them... still one of the (if not the) greatest band ever overall though talent wise... glad pearl jams reputation will never be tainted that way :D
