Somebody asked me about US election process and since I am not from the US I don't have any answer to give, so can you guys (especially Americans here) help me out...
The question is really related to how the parties nominate their candidates for the presidency. The little I know is that delegates of the party from different states nominate who they support to run for president, right? So, who are the delegates? How do you become one? And what exactly is a super delegate?
Thanks in advance...

i'm afraid we don't understand the process either
basically the parties run the nomination process. they have total control over it. you have to be active in the party to be a delegate, and REALLY active to be a superdelegate. superdelegates are generally elected officals, and they can vote for whoever they want. in the Democratic party, they are about 1/3 of the total delegates seated at the convention (the other 2/3 being 'normal' delegates). in the Republican party, they are a little less influential. 'normal' delegates must vote for whoever the voters choose, so if 3/5 of the votes go to Candidate A, then approximately 3/5 of the non-super delegates must vote for Candidate A.
well, that's my understanding of it.0 -
