So I've been on jury duty for two weeks now, going on three.. I'm taking quite a pay loss do to my duty and get paid a mesly $17.20 a DAY by the County of Cook in Chicago.. Half of that goes to transportion just to make it to the Daily Center downtown. There's no parking for less than $22 so I have to take the train...
$17.20 to sit still for 7 hours a day and listin to 5 lawyers battle it out. I'm loosing money every day here.. Ironically its an injury case thats sueing for income loss.
Now I make about 30k a year, and I'm a juror in a case for a guy sueing because he can only make 40k a year now as opposed to 80k because of an injury, so I have no pity for him..
Now here's what really kills me.
They have doctors testifying..
This brain surgeon got paid $18,000 for one hour of his time to testify!!!
I'm part of deciding this case, where's my fucking $18,000 an hour!!!
I'm sorry, but NOBODIES time is worth $18,000 an hour!
I understand he's a smart guy, and should be earning his fair share of "good" money, but from hear on out, I'm going to define what "good" money is..
We need salary caps.. for everyone..
$50 an hour max. 100k a year, max.
Communisum,.. here I come!!!

Take it to court with you on Monday.
Show it to the judge. Confess ... you don't know what came over you, but you discussed the case outside of the jury room. Presto, no more jury duty.
Of course, they could charge you with contempt, but I doubt they'd bother."Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." ~ MLK, 19630 -

I'm pretty sure this is a sign that the end is at hand.

LikeAnOcean wrote:ha ha!.. I tried to get out of this case two weeks ago, when they told us there'd be 20 witnesses in the case before they started the juror interviews for it.. none of my excuses were good enough. I understand doing my part, but 3 weeks is a hell of alot of time to take away from somebody. I deserve to be exempt from duty for atleast 10 years after this.
I was absolutely 100% certain that I wouldn't get placed on a jury, so I was looking forward to kicking back in the waiting room all week with my books and my ipod. I know how jury selection works, and I gave all the wrong answers to the questions ... the other members of the jury pool were cracking up, I was the hit of the day. They were all honest answers, but they were as wrong as can be, and they picked me anyway! Pissed me right off, I tell ya.
Good luck, I hope they wind it up soon for your sake"Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." ~ MLK, 19630 -

That would definately solve a lot of problems. And hell, it's only fucking fair! You're damn right... no one works hard enough to earn more than that.0 -
Don't you guys get allowances, etc. in the US? In the UK, when you are called for Jury Service, most employers will continue to pay your salary (you then don't keep the money you get for Jury Service). If not, you can claim for loss of earnings (employer needs to fill in a form which is handed in on the first day of court). If you are self-employed a letter from your accountant proving loss of earning will do.
All jurors are given a daily allowance for food and drink and can claim travel expenses and sometimes parking. Also, if you are at home with your children and need to make childcare arrangements, you can claim these!0 -

I'm hoping this is a joke. If not, I propose a salary cap of $17.20 per day.0 -
