Ron Paul's friends are his worst enemies. His supporters are so rabid and frenzied with their devotion to this unusual Presidential candidate that instead of challenging politics as usual, they make the status quo seem like an oasis. They are as unwielding as Dr. Paul's hardcore libertarian stances, and actually highlight the unreflexive nature of the libertarian ideology (mythology, really).
How many fucking people on MySpace and YouTube and countless other sites on the internet do nothing but spread the gospel of Ron Paul. Many even have a picture of Ron Paul for their default pic on Myspace. I cannot read another Ron Paul blog!!! Ron Paul Ron Paul Ron Paul Ron Paul Ron Paul Ron Paul Ron Paul!!!!!!!
Before all the Ron Paul hype, I would often felt keen about bringing him up as an example of a congressman (Republican or Democrat) who spoke bravely against the party machines and the machiavellian nature of our goverment. I didn't agree with him on everything, but I was happy to hear many of the important arguments he was making - and he was making them right on the floor of the House of Representatives. Quite a few times over the past decade, I would flip onto C-Span and see him there kickin a little bit of ass. If not him, it was Bernie Sanders. Unfortunately, instead of other people stepping up to the plate, Ron Paul became the Messiah for the anti-Big Government crusade. Not cool.

What's to destroy? Most of the supporters (myself included) are keenly aware of the impossibility of his nomination."All governments are murderers and liars."

yes, but at least a movement could be built.0

What's to destroy is his campaign, because all of his supporters sit here in smug comfort on the Pit and deride all the potential candidates' supporters for their belief in "the system".
And yet Ron Paul has no money to defeat the other candidates and no support outside of the internet.
So go on....keep supporting Ron Paul here on the Pit. It won't get him anywhere, will it?Feels Good Inc.0

            Preach on brotha Kenny!
They are especially annoying on myspace and on youtube they come in and talk trash on all the other candidates videos with their 'if you're not for Paul, you're a moron' bullshit. Uggghhh! If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

I wish. The last libertarian movement was built around Goldwater, who also received the nomination of a major party. Dr. Paul will not receive the nomination. Additionally, it seems that much of Dr. Paul's support is rooted in a misunderstanding of his positions. His internet support is disproportionate to both his actual support and libertarians in general."All governments are murderers and liars."

That is exactly the problem! You can't be pro-government programs one minute and then anti-government the next. They seem to be mostly fixated with his anti Iraq war stance but there are a few other candidates that would fill that hole along with actually fit into the other issues they seem concerned with better. It seems to be all about hype for some and that's kinda sad. It's good to be interested in what's going on and taking the time to take part but please...know what you're talking about first and do some research on all of the candidates. If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

I a gree. I'm a supporter of Paul, but I also hold a lot of views that are far outside the mainstream. I was shocked at all the internet support he was receiving, and it seems that most of it is coming from those who don't really agree with his philosophy. I'm not a purist; you don't have to agree with 100% of a politician's views, but I find it hard to believe that so many nonlibertarians truly support Paul."All governments are murderers and liars."

Especially the people on myspace who will post a Ron Paul bulletin one minute then turn around and post a bulletin praising Michael Moore and calling Sicko genius! It's beyond confusing to me.If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

Do you think this speaks to the lack of anti-war candidates?"All governments are murderers and liars."

I think people are really starting to distrust what they've been seeing from the Dems and Reps. They're looking for something outside the two party system which is awesome in itself but they need to at least look into everyone running, as well. I know Kucinich isn't just another Dem but do they know that? They know Paul is taking extremely bold stances outside of what is generally accepted in politics these days. I think it really started with the Alex Jones support, the 9/11 Truthers ran with it...now everyone with a beef with government thinks Paul is the answer to everything. If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

See, that's the thing. It seems like many of Paul's cybersupporters' beliefs align more with Kucinich, Gravel, etc. When Dr. Paul locked horns with Giuliani at the debate, he might have earned a lot of unwanted support."All governments are murderers and liars."

I edited my last reply at the last minute.
Let's be honest...as long as it's support, hype and money, I don't think Paul's going to complain too much.If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

Agreed. However, it also sets up the potential for a pretty severe decrease in support."All governments are murderers and liars."

Honestly, even though his supporters are annoying as all get out....if I truly believed in Paul's vision, it wouldn't sway my support...especially in the face what's left out there aside from Paul for a libertarian to choose from.If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

Sure. However, I think that a lot of Paul's financial support (which has been surprisingly strong) may be coming from his non-libertarian supporters who are likely to dry up once they become aware of other anti-war candidates."All governments are murderers and liars."

Well, I hope so The one's I try to talk to myspace don't seem to care what you say...Paul is the answer!! They seem to have their minds made up. I still like Ron Paul, though I'm not fanatical about him. I just think it's the only guy in the group I'd vote for. He has great ideas.
What I'm hoping at least is to see a strong showing from Ron Paul and a strong showing for Dennis K, because at least it would mean young people are not only voting but paying attention.
I have to imagine their supporters making thier prescence known would help lead to more economically responsible policy and reasonable well run and funded social programs that actually work, and bring the national consiousness home rather than squarely on nation building.
In fact I'd love for a sizeable number of canidates to get a sizeable number of votes. I know whoever wins is going to suck balls because the majority of people don't pay attention and go on name recognition only, and the major canidates are basically pablum no matter what they put next to thier name.
I can hope, but that's about it.My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0

That's exactly my situation. I will vote for Paul because there are no other options for me. I will vote for him in spite of him running as a Republican, and in spite of his pandering declaration of faith. I voted for him in 1988 when he was a Libertarian and there was no cult of personality surrounding him."I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/080
