    and the list goes on...
  • Yep, Yield has the best sound of all... best collaboration of songwriting though.

Binaural has a great sound, I think... how much O'Brien changed it I don't know.

Riot Act is a little rough but has its moments.

Avocado production is so-so... Inside Job and WWS are brilliant.

Ten Vs. & Vitalogy are all great... I don't get a production feel from them though (Vitalogy, maybe).

I would love it if Brendan O'Brien came back to produce a new PJ album. His work with the band is stellar.

avacado is a little over produced, but i would say VS is also. But vs is the best album to just blast, the sound quality is better than any other PJ album. in that case, my vote is for brendan

Brendan O'brien just might be the best producer of the past 15 years...

I think it's hard to argue that any producer's done more for groups than Rick Rubin.

Brendan did Vs. -> Yield. He is the one tha got such a live sound out of them by setting them all up in the room and playing live as opposed to laying down one track at a time.

"Riot Act" was recorded live. I think it sounds great. It has a lean, muscular sound. I also like O'Brien's production.
  • brendan o'brien was easily the best pj producer never was sure why they went away from him...if you want to hear how great he is listen to a record by the UK band The Music: Welcome to the North. He produced it and its GREAT!! so its not just "major artists" he can help bring out there great sound!

by the way is this just a hope that he is producing the album or something that can be cited somewhere?

I remember reading somewhere that they hired Adam Kasper because Matt suggested him. Kasper produced Soundgarden's last album (Down on the Upside).

  • I haven't heard many things by brendan i disliked, his production on all the stone temple pilots albums is sick.
He always gets my blind faith.

yeah. some of the stuff on Springsteen's Magic sounds a little shitty.... but that's the norm in the industry today.. we had a thread on this a while ago. very compressed vocals and all the instruments sound like mush.

Let's remember folks....Adam Kasper did not write "Get Right" and Tchad Blake did not write Breakerfall and Evacuation.

Those two albums sucked because the band sucked. When I say "sucked", it is for Pearl Jam's standards, not other band standards

Are you saying that Adam Kasper did write Help Help? lol :)

Good for him then! Help Help is one of the most adventurous and exciting songs on the record. I much prefer it over Ghost, LBC, Thumbing, Get Right, Arc, Bushleaguer and Green Disease.

I think it's safe to say the writing has lost a bit over the last couple. O'brien might be what it takes to get the band excited and focused in the studio again. I'm all for it

Who knows though. Just hope they really impress me on the new one, whenever they finally record/release it.

I be thinkin you just lost all your street cred with the kids round here.

I believe "Sick" is the new slang for "Cool"

just a guess though. According to http://www.urbandictionary.com

    sick:

    1)crazy, cool, insane
2)what one is on a test day

1)man, that trick was sick yo
2)i played sick on my big bio test da

  • It won't make a difference to me who produces if the music is still as bad as on Avocado.

    The songs are good.....

The production is awful.....very muddy and Ed is buried in the sound.....unlike Vitalogy and Yield.....
