I agree nationalism has to end, but another thing that has to end is people not understanding the laws under which they live.

True, but again I don't think there's a single citizen in the U.S. that understands every law of this country, so where do we draw the line?

really? dang, i'm going to have to get his number! and ondemand that episode. thank you. and actually maybe he could talk to my boss, who thinks social studies will never be as important as ela.

it's really sad though. there are so many issues with nclb, but if they're going to test nationally then they should include social studies. i don't think it is any less important than math, ela, or science. and selecting certain subjects like that pushes the others away. of course teachers are going to spend all the time they can on the tested subjects. or else their schools will shut down.
People who understand math and science, but don't understand, say, the separation of powers, and can't name more than an amendment or two, are going to make a lot of money and not cause much trouble. That's just the way the people who write the laws want it to be.

He mentioned being part of some organization or another that's actually started reintroducing civics in some schools somewhere (hey, it was late on a Friday. I was tipsy. everyone stop looking at me like that) Anyway, they're going to use these schools as a test bed - perhaps later using them as an example for other schools. I wish him luck.

It's probably penance - feels a certain guilt for all the sharks that were killed after Jaws.

Or it's an attempt to build up a captive (literally) audience for half of his more recent movies.

Thanks. I thought the same thing when I first watched it (I wasn't too drunk to remember - just don't ask me for any direct quotes). He seemed more diplomatic than most diplomats.

As you can see on page 1, Raindog spotted correctly I meant the Bill of Rights...

Good thing I wouldn't even want American citizenship, eh?

Ah well, so much for my brain storming session.

PS I'm a girl! So maybe the first question should be "Are you female or male?" ;)
