I agree. And he's also an intellectual cripple. For him to insist that there are no homosexuals in Iran, speaks to his level of intelligence or lack thereof. Either he's a brilliant genius and he's just playing strange, bizarre games OR he's a belligerent moron.United Center (Chicago): 8/24/09

Absolutly.Keep on rockin in the free world!!!!
The economy has polarized to the point where the wealthiest 10% now own 85% of the nation’s wealth. Never before have the bottom 90% been so highly indebted, so dependent on the wealthy.0 -

Some quotes i found of particular value in this up-and-down speech:
"My dear friends and scholars, distinguished participants, science and wisdom can also be misused, a misuse caused by selfishness, corruption, material desires and material interests, as well as individual and group interests. Material desires place humans against the realities of the world. Corrupted independent human beings resist acceptance of reality and even if they do accept it, they do not obey it. "
ALSO
"As another example, by using precise scientific methods and planning, they begin their onslaught on the domestic cultures of nations, the cultures which are the result of thousands of years of interaction, creativity and artistic activities. They try to eliminate these cultures in order to separate the people from their identity and cut their bonds with their own history and values. They prepare the ground for stripping people from their spiritual and material wealth by instilling in them feelings of intimidation, desire for imitation and mere consumption, submission to oppressive powers, and disability. "
AND
"science has to combine with the purity of the spirit and of the purity of man's spirit so that scholars can unveil the truth and then use that truth for advancing humanity's cause. "
ALSO
"So why is it that the Palestinian people are paying the price of an event they had nothing to do with? "
AND
"And today, too, Jews, Christians and Muslims live in brotherhood all over the world, in many parts of the world. They don't have any serious problems. "
ON NUCLEAR AMBITIONS:
"But regretfully, two or three monopolistic powers, selfish powers, want to force their word on the Iranian people and deny them their right. "
AND
" They tell us, 'Don't make it yourself. We'll give it to you.'
Well, in the past, I tell you, we had contracts with the U.S. government, with the British government, the French government, the German government and the Canadian government on nuclear development for peaceful purposes. But unilaterally, each and every one of them canceled their contracts with us, as a result of which the Iranian people had to pay the heavy cost in billions of dollars. "
ON US SPONSORSHIP OF TERROR & CIA BACKING OF BLACK OPS:
"We've been victims of terrorism ourselves, and it's regrettable that people who argue they're fighting terrorism, instead of supporting the Iranian people and nation, instead of fighting the terrorists that are attacking them, they're supporting the terrorists and then turn the fingers to us. This is most regrettable. "
ON THE HOLOCAUST:
"I'm not saying that it didn't happen at all. This is not (the ?) judgment that I'm passing here. I said in my second question, granted this happened, what does it have to do with the Palestinian people? This is a serious question. They're two dimension."If I was to smile and I held out my hand

My question to this guy would be, Why nuclear energy? And I wouldn't ask this under the premise that he's got some sort of evil ambitions to make weapons. The thing with nuclear is that we still haven't figured out how to dispose of the waste. It's a serious environmental hazard.

I dont disagree with you. but if environmental hazards are your main concern, consider the alternative. coal burning plants? (not sure if coal is used or found out there) coal burning is the leading cause for global warming.0 -

So who is anybody who uses it and "dosen't know how to rid the waste" to tell anybody else that they can use it or better yet be making more for themselves? You've changed your place in this world!0 -
Does anyone from any other country really know what the population or practice of homosexuality is in Iran? It would be nice to hear from they themselves if they do exist.
Is it really so incredulous to say "we don't have homosexuality"? Perhaps it truly isn't part of their culture."When you're climbing to the top, you'd better know the way back down" MSB0 -

I would hope that wouldn't be his argument, though, I suspect it would be. At least part of it. He spoke of billions of dollars being spent to the US, Canada, etc for development of nuclear energy, and of energy in general. He is saying that Iran now has the know-how to implement this energy for themselves, and there is no reason to be spending the money elsewhere. It seems to be a matter of self-determination. I think differently. I think nuclear energy has to be phased out entirely for the health of the planet and its people.

AS for other energy, I think this country is long overdue for an overhaul to make use of solar and wind energy.

solar and wind power will never produce enough to satisfy our energy need.0 -
some people actually think ahmadinejad is an idiot?? ... that's truly bewildering ...
anyhoo - the man has turned himself into a hero back home despite his declining popularity thanks to their ignorant hosts ..
as far as energy goes - people need to first and foremost get it in their head that conservation is key to any energy plan ... we can't continue to waste resources and energy the way we have - it's absolutely ridiculous ...0 -

"Iranian Leader Fails To Ease Tension, Visit Ends With Rebuke From Congress" -- Washington Post
Please!
I must ask the following:
Short of publicly renouncing his justly formed beliefs that --
a. the Palestinian people have been very much wrongly persecuted as the result of the holocaust, something they had nothing to do with
b. the Iranian people have a soverign right, as spelled out in international agreement, to pursue nuclear energy for peaceful development
-- what could Ahmadinejad have done to "ease tensions"?
It seems like the US is on a crash course for war.
The only way for a country to avoid such a predetermined war is for them to say, "hey man. we are wrong. everything we believe, rightly or not, it was wrong. What do you think? Yes master, we think you are right! What do you want? Here, have it."
... it's like a game of Civilization where the only way to avoid war with an aggressive neighbor is to pay the damn tribute, consent to change your civics and your religion, and stop trading with "my greatest enemy".
... in short, it is a bunch of crap.
I would like some responses.
In all seriousness, WHAT could he have done or said different?
ON HOMOSEXUALS IN IRAN:
I do not actually find it difficult to believe that in Iran they do "not have homosexuals, like in this country" ... does anyone here really picture a bunch of iranian men running around in boot shorts, and hard hats, talking with extreme lisps and grabbing eachothers bicepts while giggling?
I'm not making profiles of gay people, i'm illustrating a possible cultural difference ... i think very few countries have homosexuals (males, particularly) that are as outwardly "different" from heterosexuals as, say, the stereotypical San Francisco queer. They probably do have some geneticaly "gay" males in Iran, but i'm guessing they are far more "in the closet" and "reserved" in their "practice" than in America.
ON ALTERNATIVE ENERGY:
You people need to wake up to reality.
I am a huge proponent of alternative fuel sources, and of sustainable culture in general, but the pragmatic reality is that hydroelectric, wind and solar power in particular are not viable options to fully replace nuclear and coal.
Solar panels are made of rare elements, wind power requires far too many turbines to be practical, and you only need to look to a country like China to see how damaging hydroelectric power really is ... yeah, there are plenty of rivers to damn, but you catastrophicaly and permanently alter the flow of water throughout massive regions of your country by doing so.
When China damned the Yang Tse river, they fucked themselves in the face. They wont see many of the effects of that for probably half a century, but it will kick them right good in the ass!
Already in america, due to the damns on the Colorado river, we are seeing ENTIRE SPECIES of fish die off. As the river runs dry, and cold oxygen starved water from the depths of the reserved damn water is released to replace the warm oxygen rich water which is being syphoned off at ever farm and factory on the river, the species of fish that depend on the warm water are dying left and right. This is serious irreversible shit that is happening. The unintended consequences of our actions are killing not just ourselves, but our entire ecosystems.
There ain't no easy way out!
