"An online tool that claims to reveal the identity of organisations that edit Wikipedia pages has revealed that the CIA was involved in editing entries.
Wikipedia Scanner allegedly shows that workers on the agency's computers made edits to the page of Iran's president.
It also purportedly shows that the Vatican has edited entries about Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams.
The tool, developed by US researchers, trawls a list of 5.3m edits and matches them to the net address of the editor."

Progress is not made by everyone joining some new fad,
and reveling in it's loyalty. It's made by forming coalitions
over specific principles, goals, and policies.

BBC News wrote:The site also indicates that a computer owned by the US Democratic Party was used to make changes to the site of right-wing talk show host Rush Limbaugh.
The changes brand Mr Limbaugh as "idiotic," a "racist", and a "bigot". An entry about his audience now reads: "Most of them are legally retarded."
That made me laugh like a drunk vagrant.:DSmokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.0 -

That's too funny. I just did a find for "wanker" on the page and voted it up

I doubt they thought at the time anyone would ever write some sophisticated program to scour and backtrace the entire editing process.
I can hear them now sitting at their desks reasoning it
"sigh....so bored....maybe a little anonymous and harmless wikipedia edit for cheap kicks to send around to all my CIA buddies..hehe It'll be funny. So like what...are they going like write some huge sophisticated program to scour and back trace the entire wikipedia editing process or something...yeah right"
CIA does not automatically guarantee computer savvy. If you don't know what an IP address is or anything about back end server functionality.....yeap.

This sounds like a conspiracy-worthy post alright. I heard the CIA used wikipedia to cover up 9/11!!!
HahaAll I know is that to see, and not to speak, would be the great betrayal.

why would they need to be more covert?? ... it's not like information like this changes anything ...0 -

Haha
They did it right under your nose and you joke about it.
As for people questioning why would the CIA or any other organization use their own computers to change info, it is because they are really just as stupid as anybody else in the world. And what is going to become of it? A few more jokes like I have read already on this thread. Then life will go on.You've changed your place in this world!0 -
polaris wrote:why would they need to be more covert?? ... it's not like information like this changes anything ...
Yeah, and I'm sure that these changes weren't some high level mandate... probably just a few bored employees who saw something that wasn't correct or that they thought that needed changed. My whole life
was like a picture

thats the difference between US and UK spy networks.. the CIA goes and amends the leader of Irans details... the bored guys at MI5 have edited the pages "List of Playstation 3 games"

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -

It appears the irony is quite circular. I'm sure the writers of this program have now supplied themselves with a fair amount of entertainment.
Here's a couple edits from BBC.CO.uk addresses
Changing Walker to Wanker (Bush):
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=prev&oldid=1667544
from terrorist to freedom fighters:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=prev&oldid=1667544
Also IP addresses from within the Brown Brothers Harriman & co have been caught (twice now) deleting the information that links them to funding Nazi wartime operations, or I should say rather ramping up the Hitler war machine.
