                    Man, Hat, Inn
You're in the gritty city
where not everything is pretty
The nice bag ladies quote verses
while the sinning ones shout curses
All the voices make a chorus
All the buildings are a forest
The sun gets left above
Because down here there is no love
Leave pretzel crumbs
so you don't get lost
Leave jewelry home
or you'll pay the cost
Never mind the big bad wolf
the stepmother
Virginia Woolf...
Fear the priests
the cops and lawyers
Now you know why
young Tom Sawyer
stayed away...
The deep south was innocent
compared to this:
Our life this way

wow that was awesome!! the utter truth...It's only after disaster that we can be resurrected...
it's only after you've lost everything ...that you are free to do anything....(Fight Club)
 ... I'll ride the wave...where it takes me....0

            On My Last Sciatic Nerve
I paid for my sins at the local bank
and the next day it was robbed
I ran far away from the madding crowd
 only to join the mob
I can't accept the thought of heaven
when I'm living here in hell
And I find your pitches boring
when you've nothing left to sell
 I'm a cynical jaded realist
 a lost and faded lyricist
If on saving me you do insist
 please realize I may resist
People tell me this is just a phase
but it's going on forty years
I find it best to laugh at myself
than to drown in all your tears
 I'm a cynical jaded realist
 a lost and faded lyricist
If on saving me you do insist
 please realize I may resist

One does get shagged out and tired by all the repetition, the drudgery, the predictability of a dominant ideology - proliferated through advertising, TV, bad radio phone-in shows, this Internet, crap pub conversation, and piped muzak - that's now to dumb even to be entertainingly and subtly coercive. One can get old fast, once one realises the way the game works and furthermore, that there's no brains behind the game but just pumped up, twitching muscle.
 Thanks for this.0

That was a typo, not a spelling error: I meant, "too dumb".0

enough. I'm pretty tolerant that way. Thanks for the reply.
If I may add yet another, I'm not sure how many I'm allowed to post per thread, being new here.....but I have a lot of stuff written and hope to be allowed to share it. You are all welcome to critique it, so long as you don't make me cry into my beer, lol...
 This Pond, and Beyond
a/k/a The March Through the Marsh
 Lurking in the shadows
 the hidden shallows
 of this pond
 Staring up at blue skies
 sending my cries
 out beyond
Wondering what comes back to me
 what's left behind
 and left unsaid
Thinking maybe there is no one
 understands
 what's in my head
Tell me you do, tell me you know
 tell me you love
 what's inside
Show me your heart, tell me I'm part
 of this earth
 so I can't hide
Grass is green but in between
 lie the lines
 that keep me here
Men with whistles dressed in jail stripes
 guard the goal and
 make it clear
I'm not wanted, I’m with no one
 I'm alone
 inside my pain
And I'm blinded, I feel cheated
 that I've nothing
 more to gain
 But some wisdom, speaking softly
 bidding me stay off
 the streets
Makes me march on to my drummer
 Though he's weary
 of this beat
And the man who holds the flag up
 says his shoes
 now hurt his feet
But we march on through the madness
 through the sadness
 towards relief
And we're grateful when there's someone
 waiting for us
 in our room
With the lights on - got the place warm
 so's to fend off
 all my gloom
Then I laugh at all my worries
 go back to childhood
 and beyond
Then I lie with, then I talk with
 the one of whom my
 heart is fond
Lurking with me in the shadows
 in the shallows
 of this pond

            before I go to bed:
 Chameleon
I’ll wait here by the river
 Let diamond sparkling sun reflections
burn holes in the back of my eyes
 and I will not cry
 I’m strong that way
 Later I’ll pay
But for now I’m a green weed growing strong
 floating along
 singing my songs
 and nothing is wrong
I’ll sit here on the roadside
 Let streaming screaming headlight halos
burn holes in the back of my eyes
 and I will not cry
 I’m wrong that way
 Later I’ll pay
But for now I’m a jade snake crawling along
 skinny and long
 singing my songs
 and nothing is wrong
I’ll stand here at your doorway
Let glaring staring outdoor guard lights
burn holes in the back of my eyes
 and I will not cry
 I was born that way
 Later I’ll pay
But for now I’m a cat burglar on your lawn
 where I don’t belong
 singing my songs
 and nothing is wrong
 I’m strong that way
 Later I’ll pay
 But later always comes
 much too late
 So open the gate
