Trouble getting past first verse/stanza

I come up with these, what I beleive, are pretty clever lines that end up being a few lines long. My intentions are song writing, and after those fist few lines (first verse) I freeze right up and can't think of anything else. Anyone else encountered this? What can I do?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Have a theme. Think of three metaphors to illustrate your theme. Think of three similes to describe the sights, sounds, emotions and sensations you want to convey. Think of three ways to express your theme: introductory; the main body of argument; a conclusion (maybe with an ironic twist).
Now write a three stanza lyric.
Hope that helps.
More tips: remember you're writing something to be sung. Don't clutter your lyrics up with too many consonants. Make sure you've some good arrangements of vowel sounds. Think about the rhythm the words create. In songwriting, getting a great sound like awopbopaloomopawopbamboo is even more important than having a great lyrical theme.0 -
The Indifferent One wrote:I like that word finsbury, its funky as fo'. Oh and one last tip from moi, stay off the pre verbs, "you", "I", "he" etc.etc.
The pronouns? Well, if the song's theme is abstract, okay, but if it's narrative it needs them. (For example, "Arnold Layne", most of the songs on "Tommy" and nearly every love song ever written would suffer without pronouns.) Also, in the history of poetry, the lyric form was traditionally first-person.0 -

Some poetry takes years to complete. Keep a journal. Make notes. Sometimes you can't really tell what you are writing until later. Brilliant ideas usually come in flashes. I've found this to help me anyways. Primarily cause sometimes I write in my dreams and upon waking I can't hardly remember what I wrote...
Repeat it over and over, not only will you remember, but more ideas begin to flow.

that's really good advice, I couldn't think of any advice....probably because I just write off the top of my head.....but I'm amazed that you write poetry in your sleep......that's gotta be the coolest thing.....the only thing I can accomplish while I sleep is designing dresses......hehehehe.....but that can be quite fun too.........they're asking me to prove why I should be allowed to stay with my baby in Australia, because I'm mentally ill......and they think I should leave......0
