Yellow plane leaves drape the black lip kerb that juts from the towpath in Jesus Green in mid-October; leaves, winded, gracefully slide down, yellow and brown into the glimmerings of river by Jesus Lock. In the mist of my breath that floats out among the heads of passing swans, I see a tall glimmer on the footbridge over the shimmering water, its dark green reflecting fensky afternoon grey on its way to blue. A riverman, watching falling leaves. On the other bank by Chesterton Road, stooping willows rock in gentle jazzy five four, a rhythm played by huge ivory fingers to a strangetuned guitar. Gullglide, high string arco, ending on a note of sustain, suspense, never telling how the river flows. A shadow, a glimmer on the bridge. A watcher, wondering if the riverflow is meant for him.

Thanks. If I leave my front door now and walk about 500 yards, I reach the River Cam. If I follow that river southward for about half a mile I come to the bridge at Jesus Lock from which Nick Drake is supposed to have formulated the idea for "Riverman".0

He's so good, yes. There's consummate measure and learnedness in his vision, there's eise economy and moving symbolism in his lyrics, and his guitar playing still sets a standard for folk chordal arrangement in open tunings.0

I don't know why I typed the word "eise". I was trying to type "real" without looking at the keyboard and it came out as "eise". I suppose that's a bit like a lead guitarist playing a scale in the wrong position and finding they'd created a novel tonal effect from a mistake. "eise".0

I Googled the acroym finder. "Extendable Integration Support Environment." When we get tired of the UOLs we can move onto the EISE's. 0 0

Fins I think the opening phrase could be gussied up a bit, I sort of stammer over it every time I reread it, but the piece itself if remarkably tranquil.0

Jesus Green in mid-October. Fallen yellow plane leaves drape the river towpath's black lip kerb; etc etc
