A wilful non-participant
"If someone said to you, 'You're lazy, mate,
you never think to hit the flicker switch
on your remote', you might just say, 'I hate
the television! Sometimes I could ditch
it. There's no draw, there's no variety
at all. No, I'm not lazy! It's my right
to keep the telly off! Your piety
is misinformed! Quit! Avaunt my sight!'
"So, come the next election, don't shout
'You're lazy, you, your apathy's a crime!
Some died for suffrage! But, instead you flout
their legacy, when you don't vote!' Oh, time
will prove my stillness wilful, active, bent
to state, 'I see no choice'. Not voting is dissent."

That's not my view, but I thought it would be fun to write about it.0

In the village of McDibblesville
the summit of McDibble Hill
is visible to Caterpillar Bill
who eyes the hookbill birds within
the leafy water's ripple thin
reflections, of a skyline sleek and still.
When that caterpillar crunches
on his lettuce lunch his munches
rumble shimmers on the river's rolling rill
and the flowers of the valley
flash for hours with a tally
of sweet daydreams of a Butterflying Bill.0 -

I wish I had a caterpillar...
Finsbury, upon reading 'A wilful participant' again, I came across the part about "suffrage" and was reminded of something...
On election day, I was on my way to pick up my cousin and we were going to the polls together. I had the local talk radio station on, and they were doing an 'exit poll' of their own...they were asking people as they walked out :
'Which candidate do you think will do the best at ending women's suffrage...Kerry or Bu$h?'
I was ASTOUNDED at how many people had no clue what 'suffrage' means.
BTW--a vast majority replied 'Bu$h'.
thought that a bit amusing...had to share it.PJ: Toledo-9/22/96. E. Lansing-8/18/98. Detroit-8/23/98. Detroit-10/7/00. Detroit-6/25 & 6/26/03. Toledo-10/2/04 [VFC]. Detroit-5/22/06. Chicago-8/5/07 [Lolla]. Cleveland-5/9/10. Baltimore-10/27/13.
