We spoke in shadows
silhouette of horror and
shame with dark faces
Like a cat in dim
moonlight: the glassy eyes shone
hinting at the fangs
Pain pierced the night in
ways winter pierces the soul
icy, unyielding
as brutal as a
gravel pillow fight, as coarse
as an estranged wife
She turned away, turned
back, cried and stared up to God,
or where God would be
if she still believed
that He was there, and begged the
sky for no more lies
