1987

Still she sits in her plaid covered self
On the edge of grandpa’s side of the bed
Playing her favorite midday drift
Upon her once stringed acoustic friend

Sing the song old tired soul
The one that built these stone walls
Flesh and graveled tinted glass
Smeared paint of ash covered halls

Stories packed in meat boxes
Nine steps below the chicken cot
Share the years with frigid wine
Which once drank the cellar warm
Is now as empty as the house above
'I want to hurry home to you
put on a slow, dumb show for you
and crack you up
so you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
god I'm very, very frightening
and I'll overdo it'

1987 was the year my family and I left Hungary. I was seven at the time and this is my memory of my grandmother and her house. Well, the way i imagine it is now after everybody around her died and now she has no one left. I have fond memories of it, i miss playing with the chickens, as a child, and climbing atop the big wine barrels in the cellar.
