and it felt black

and all around there was water
and there were shadows at my feet
and the sun so high in the sky
what can be wrong, with the sun so high in the sky?
and wave, I wave, I struggle

I recede, but don't concede

and thoughts float in
as fear tries to pull me under
and you sweep past, the past
I will not pass

and I find now that looking up
means not looking down
and the significance of that thought
treads gentle, spreads calm
as I decide my twist of fate

and there is no panic here, now
no eddy in deep waters
tide and surge
power and control
patience and strength

and with will, i recede

but don't concede
