Fragile

They flutter amongst the living
With shallow breath
And silent touch
Pretty butterflies,
War-childs
Painted blue and black.
They carry no weapons
But the clothes on their backs,
A hurried piece of cloth
That covers
But offers no protection
From wind
Storms
Blood…
No shelter from pain
Or desperate humanity.
They move around,
Crying quietly
Feel nothing at all
Or maybe just too much?
Beautiful and obviously ugly
Shattered…
Torn apart…
And one evening like any other
It’s just not enough
The dancer pauses in midair
And crumbles to the floor
The moth is consumed by the light
It could not create on its own…
And so the player exits
Bows out of his final role
Bouquet in hand,
Tears at close call…
The curtains fall
Final and deafening
But no one will clap,
No one claps at all…
