you still hold my hand

we're old, you and I

it happened so fast

I see you're face toughen, but nothing stops that smile
and in each crease and fold
a child's pain, a lost parent, a bad day
all overcome - together

and as I sit and look at these feet of mine
that have walked so lightly, and run so freely
etched with blue but still holding
I touch your leg in the night

and as I look at these hands and what they have created
and what they touched
sometimes hurting, sometimes helping
I take a breath, and I smile
as I realize that no matter what
whenever I reach out
you still hold my hand
we're all sentient snowflakes

I'm a number that doesn't count
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the nothing ventured - the nothing feigned

    this is very nice share.


    it's nice to know there are some relationships that can last the test of time, you and the old man are one of those, and I got to see that with my own eyes once upon a time.


    tell him I said boo, if you see this, and you two don't change, you're perfect the way you are.

    I try not to change but dang these wrinkles keep poppin' up with the grey hairs - next thing you know I'll have granny whiskers and a ponch

    yup - we'll be rockin' together through the ages - it'll be in rockin' chairs though

    well said, this is a nice poem. kinda refreshing
    The only thing I enjoy is having no feelings....being numb rocks!
