What an awesome band, they weren't your typical hair metal band, they were actually good.

They never were a hair metal band and should not be grouped in with such.

:D I know what you mean, though. They're a great band. Ridiculously talented.

They were labeled "the thinking man's metal". They went more of the prog metal route rather than the hair metal, although they did look like chicks for awhile. I still see them live every time they play in Seattle (which is a hell of a lot more frequently than Pearl Jam does!). They put on a good show and can still play. They are working on a new album now, and will be touring again next year. Not the big arena shows anymore. Mostly casinos and theaters, but at this point, I enjoy seeing the band in smaller venues, and chatting with them after a show. Wilton can still shred, too. I took guitar lessons from him for a little while. Excellent guy.

The Warning, Rage for Order, and Operation:Mindcrime were 3 of that eras best albums.

They aren't as good without Chris DeGarmo.

Yeah, lol. Well when I think of "hair metal" I think of it in terms of musical style moreso than appearance. Queensryche didn't fit the bill musically. Their sound was more progressive, and they didn't have all the stupid ass lyrics attached to all those L.A. bands.

One of the first concerts I ever saw was them on the Empire tour.

Lost interest after Promised Land. I loved that record though.

Was just listening to Empire a couple days ago. The post-DeGarmo stuff kinda stinks, but everything before is classic.
  • Geoff Tate has an amazing voice.

you picked a good time to lose interest. I will say though that Mindcrime II was a respectable follow up. the original still holds up and remains to this day one of my favorites.

Rage For Order still sounds like nothing else. What a great record.

  • Queensryche is a great band - Mindcrime is a classic metal album. Mindcrime 2 is not very good, but thats ok :)

    God can Tate sing . . . .
