I have a subscription to eMusic but have trouble using all of my downloads every month. Anyone else?

Thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for pit members to share good finds on eMusic.

Here are a few of my recent choice finds:

well, I have been a member since 2000 and have used at least 90 downloads a month every month since then.

So, I wouldn't even know where to start recommending there is so much incredible stuff out there.

I can't get to eMusic at work so I can't link. However my username there is Idiot-Wind and from there you can see what I have downloaded.

you have a couple links from artists I haven't heard so I'll check 'em out.

the last couple CD's I downloaded from there are (I forget some of the titles)

Minus the Bear - their new one
    Big Business - ??
    Boris - Amplifier Worship

    great idea for a thread.
  • Minus The Bear's new album is fantastic. Spoon's new gem is on eMusic as well, also fantastic.

Not sure how to look up your account on eMusic transplant....

ugh, I forgot what a PITA it is. Ok, once you are logged in, do an Album search for Tallahassee (by the Mountain Goats). Which BTW is one of the greatest albums in there. I wrote a half-assed review of it so go through them until you hit Idiot-Wind and then click on it. I think from there you can then check out what I downloaded.

To also get you started, you can also do a label search for Matador. You could have a field day with the number of excellent music put out by that label, Belle and Sebastian, Dinosaur Jr, Yo La Tengo, I mean really there are dozens of great bands under there.

They finally put some Hydra Head out there which, if you enjoy metal should appeal to you. For punk, the obvious Epitaph and some Fat Wreck releases are there.

Post up if you have any questions regarding some of this. Have fun.
  • Nice! Looks like we have some similar tastes. I wasn't aware they had Ghosts of The Great Highway by Sun Kil Moon available.

Just wrote a review for Andrew Bird if you would like to check out my download history:

nicely done. I agree that Andrew Bird CD is awesome.

what do you think of that Midlake? That first track is outstanding. The rest is pretty darn good as well.

I'm hot or cold on Midlake. I love some of their tracks and don't care for others.

The first track is Roscoe, they have an acoustic version that is far superior in my mind.
  • Just downloaded:

Bishop Allen - The Broken String

    It is great.

I was actually looking into getting a subscription. Is it worth it? Is there a lot of decent material on there?

Obviously, I say yes. However things are starting to get interesting. Since my last post on here, Epitaph, Fat Wreck and Hydra Head are no longer on there.

It seems now that downloading is now becoming much more common, many of these labels which have been there for years are complaining about the money they make per track. they are pulling out and either starting their own website or joining on somewhere else where they make more per track. Epitaph has been the biggest of the labels to do this. Rumor has it there are many more labels that may do the same thing. Not sure how this will play out.

That being said, the latest I grabbed off there are:

Dead Kennedys - Holiday in Cambodia
Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass
    Nadja - Touched
Wolves in the Throne Room - Diadem of 12 Stars
Arcade Fire - No Cars Go EP
    Thom Yorke - the Eraser

ok.....I just signed up and am quite conflicted on how to spend my 25 downloads.

10 will be used on the Decemberists - Castaways and Cutouts (have never been able to find this album anywhere)

    now my last 15??????

I've heard lots of talk on here about:

    the Hold Steady OR
    the National

after previewing the 2.....I think I prefer the National.....but what album do y'all recommend - Alligator or Boxer

OR am I missing out on something that trumps these 2 bands (Hold Steady, National)

......I plan on cancelling this once I am done with my preview - far too poor (2 new babies in my life these days)

I think Boxer is a better album overall however I like the best songs off Alligator better than those on Boxer. You are not going to go wrong with either.

Aesop Rock's new album rekindled my love for indie hip hop, tons of good stuff on emusic.

    I downloaded Eraser as well.

I think I need to try this out. A lot of bands I've been meaning to check out are on there.

If anyone's into alt-country (hate the term, but it works) you might want to check out the Deadstring Brothers. I haven't bought any of their music yet, but I recently listened to their first album in full and really liked it.

are you saying there are tons of good indie hip hop on eMusic? if so, what are some examples? I am an eternity away from being any kind of authority on hip hop however I do try to get the 'buzzed' about ones. ie Danger Doom, Madvillian etc...

I like this Aesop Rock the best out of the ones I have downloaded.
