WORST concerts (top five) you've seen

-
1. DMB (1998) - About halfway through a show that included girls yelling how much they loved Dave, two dudes tripping balls falling all over themselves, and a lifeless set I uttered my favorite statement about the band and their fans..."You can't spell Dumb without DMB".
2. DMB (2004) - So six years later I go to VFC in DC, and watch as people go nuts for the most boring 30 minutes of the event.
3. Green Day (2006) - I was down with watching a canned show with cheesy pyro (hell I've seen the stones so I'm used to it), until they played good riddance to end...at least I was one of the first out.
4. Phish (2001) - Second time I saw them...the show was ok, except it was in upstate-NY and the temp went from the 70s to the high 30s, and poured rain, even flooding the floor area at Darien Lakes. We bought pizza to keep our hands warm...and I drove home shirtless...gross.
5. Sleater-Kinney (2006/7? D.C.) - Show didn't happen b/c of heat. They play a sick set the next day, then break up 4 shows later.0 -

Guns N Roses - 1991 Metallica played for 2 hours, then a 2 hour break, then GNR came on and only played an hour... no encore and from what I remember it was a shitty set
Judging by your location and other concerts I'm assuming you saw them at the Metrodome. It was '92, GNR did play for two hours and did have an encore, you may still think they suck but atleast get the facts right.0 -
Yellow Ledbelly wrote:I am just wondering why everyone says RHCP sucks so hard live? I have not seen them, have only watched the Live at Slane Castle dvd incessantly, but I have several friends who have seen them and they really enjoyed it. Judging by that dvd, I would think they would be a good live show.
So, what's the deal?
Like fowls said: it seemed like they didn't even make an effort to try to put on a good show. Also, they played a lot of songs from the last album from what I can recall ,and I find most of that album soo boring. At Roskilde they didn't communicate with the crowd at all, and the only one who seemed like he was having just a little bit fun was Flea. Highlight was Havana Affair - after that I left cause I was so disappointed. Now, keep in mind this was three hours or so after I'd seen The Who and not much could top that one, but RHCP was one of my fav. bands when I was younger so if they'd been any good I definately would've ended up having a great time.0 -
1.- Michael Jackson- Mexico 1992 ( I Think) worst concert ever, I was a huge fan as a kid, but his show seemed more like a bradway show, he didnt even sing, it was terrible.
2.- RHCP- simply boring
3.- Aerosmith- 1992 Mexico City, I thought they were a rock band, I was wrong
4.- Bon Jovi- (see number3)
5.- Alanis Morrisete.- I really loved her until I saw her live, it was so fucking boring.0 -
The following are the worst live bands I've ever seen (some of them were opening for another band)
No particular order:
Gin Blossoms in Atlantic City NJ, Summer of 2006
Boston in Camden NJ, Summer of 2004 (I think)
Morningwood in Philly, 2003 (Opened for The Fire Theft)
The Datsuns in Camden NJ, Winter 2005 (Opened for The Pixies)
Kasabian in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Summer 2007 (Some festival, before the Killers came on)I believe the children are our future... unless we stop them now...0 -

They were great on their "The Salary Remains the Same" tour of nineteen and ninety-three (I still have the t-shirt). And I love these two lyrics:

and

Atari Teen Age Riot opened for Ministry in 1999 Fillmore Denver. BORING
David Bowie 1995 Shoreline Amphitheater uninspiring is the nice thing I could say.
Great White 1987 Santa Barbara really boring
Alcatraz Inga Monstien (sp?) is the most overrated guitarist of all time.
Leta Ford if it wasn't for the tight leather and big tits and her willingness to show them no one would ever go to her metal crap
Consolidated at 333 Slims in SF got kicked out by the band after two women started a fight in front of me. One Butch and one RW Christian who was posting strange Mooney like Christian stuff all over the place.
We flicked off the band and left. The bouncer at the door said thank you and meant it.I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.

RHCP-04,shabby and lazy
Eels-E was in a vile mood and lost the plot with the audience.“There should be a place where only the things you want to happen, happen”0 -
Velvet Revolver 2-3 years ago - awful - band should be disbanded so GNR and STP can reunite
Green Day (American Idiot) - more music; less Billy Joe; lose the supersoakers and Shout cover
Counting Crowes - Recovering the Satellites - I don't mind rearrangements of some songs live however not every song to the extent that they are unrecognizable and lame.
Rolling Stones - 1981 - phoned it in.
Three Doors Down - 6-7 years ago - boring. Thank god it was free.
Cranberries - 6 or 7 years ago - even more boring
RCHP - Stadium Arcadia - another vote for the Chilis. 1 1/2 hour set? Anthony phoned it in and can't sing.
Don Henley - so horrible, I can't remember how long ago it was.
Foo Fighters 1999 - horrible sound.
Death Cab for Cutie last tour -boring; the warm up band Stars was even more boring. Snoozefest.
PJ 2000 (cincy) - Horrible sound; Sonic Youth almost as bad as having to see Slater-Kinney open for PJ. Bad sound; band wasn't into it.
Smashing Pumpkins - Asheville residency 2007 - not bad but could have been so much better.
Way more than five. Agreed. I saw them on that same tour. The Wallflowers opened for them (they were excellent), but the Crows were OK until they did a half-assed version of Mr. Jones, at that point they disappointed me. Also, Adam Duritz complained about how we weren't standing up like everyone in Kansas City did the night before (this was in St. Louis).
Weezer - 1996, in a small club on the Pinkerton tour. Rivers barely spoke to the crowd, basically just stood there and moved back and forth the whole night.
Lollapalooza 2003 - This was mostly me, I had a seat WAY off to the left where I could only see a part of the stage. Plus, it was really hot that day, and by the end my feet and head were hurting. It was just a miserable time, not what I expected Lolla to be about. Audioslave and QOTSA rocked, though."As long as the music's loud enough, we won't hear the world falling apart."—Jubilee

Worst ive ever seen: Eagles 2001 Stockholm
Oh God this was a boring show...and it didnt get more exciting after they played Hotel California as the first song. Was during my period when I had to see anything famous.
Besides from that i havent seen too many really bad shows (not counting festivals). But i have gotten REALLY disappointed in a couple of shows.
1. Tool 2006 Gothenburg Sweden
I love Tool (second favourite after PJ), but this show was so disappointing. 10000 days wasnt as good as i hoped, and they played a lot from it. And it was a festival show in broad daylight. Tool should be seen in a dark arena, with all their lights and videos. Their music is art, its all about creating a spiritual experience. A Tool show shouldnt be wasted like that...and they should have played more from Lateralus!! And it was too short as well!
2. Neil Young 2003 Stockholm
A solo tour after his Greenvile record. Greatest arena in Stockholm, small beautiful place, only 1500 people...Neil Young at Roskilde 2001 was at the time the best show I'd ever seen. Payed almost 200 dollars for the ticket (regular admision!!). And he almost didnt play any of the old songs. He was in this strange mood the all night. He started playing before the people had come back to their seats after the intermission. Only had a two song (or something) encore.
3. Queens of the Stone Age 2008 (yesterday actually) Stockholm
Have seen them a couple of times, and theyve always kicked ass live. Not yesterday. First of all they mostly played new stuff, Era Vulgaris isnt that good. It just felt so much like they were just doing their jobs, wanting to get the show over with...and they only played 1.5 hours. The show just didnt have that rock n roll fealing you expect from qotsa
4. Pearl Jam 2006 Barcelona
Had waited 6 years since my first PJ show, flew to Barcelona to watch the show. Stood in the front rows and the sound was just so bad, couldnt hear the vocals. The security sucked, it was really bad in the front rows...shocking to me whos first and ever PJ show was in Roskilde 2000. Was so thirsty i couldnt really enjoy the show....the bootleg is great though!PJ

candlebox sticks out...94 or 95 they opened for rush at the aud in buffalo and the fucking jerk off lead singer thought it would be cool to the 50 or 60 people that were actually watching his shit band, to make fun of the bills for losing 4 straight super bowls...i cringe still when i hear them
guns n roses 92 at rich stadium...boring fucking guitar solos...i swear it was like 45 minutes of a piano/guitar thing before he actually started singing november rain...and it is possible to fall asleep on acid
metallica at woodstock 99...just did not care for the montage of 5 different songs...they were fucking great in 92 when they opened for g-n-r
tom petty at music midtown in atlanta 2004...he was relly upset about some country guy being louder than him on some other stage...he played 4 songs i just hate and he left 15 minutes early...didn't even play american girl
KISS 2004 in charlotte...love KISS, dad took me to see them in 1979 when i was 5...seen 2 prior reunion tours and loved it...but this time they a fake ace and peter criss and they played new KISS, something about a pyscho circus or something...anyways it was awful"I never make plans that far ahead"0 -
fowls wrote:RHCP are great when they put the effort in, but there are times when they obviously think they're too great to put any effort in and that's when they suck. They're too full of themselves, and sometimes it translates into a bad live show.
Absolutely agree with you. I left after about four songs last year at Reading, I was bored to tears.
Smashing Pumpkins were another huge disappointment at Reading (festival) last year. They played some good stuff and when they stuck to the classics they sounded great, but a 15 minute version of Heavy Metal Machine (does anyone other than Billy Corgan like that song?) was boring as hell, and when they only had a relatively short time on stage there was loads of stuff they could have, and should have played. It didn't help that NIN played just before them, and they put on a jaw-dropping show.
Puddle Of Mudd, again at Reading festival, it was just after their first album came out. I liked a couple of songs like Drift and Die and Blurry, but the singer felt the need to cram unnecessay swear words into every song, it was ridiculous!
Angels and Airwaves (supporting Foo Fighters) - now if ever there was a rubbish band it's them. Musically they're alright, then the vocals kick in.....seriously how arrogant do you have to be to sound that bad, yet still insist on singing?
REM - eek! I feel so bad for saying it, but I saw them a few years back at Brixton Academy, and they played so much old old stuff, I barely knew any of it. I'm sure there were a few hardcore fans there who appreciated the early 80's stuff, but I think there's a reason why they didn't really make it big til the late 80's/early 90's - because that's when they started writing decent songs! I remember being seriously underwhelmed when it finished.0 -

I just think they are the worst band ever. Well maybe not ever but they fucking suck."I don't believe in PJ fans but I believe there is something, not too sure what." - Thoughts_Arrive0 -

I saw Metallica the very next night after that Woodstock show back in Maryland. The best Metallica show I've ever seen in the upteen times I've seen them live.
Also they blew GNR off the stage at RFK Stadium in DC. The energy they displayed was tremendous in that show and on that tour.
GNR thought they were the shit but their show put me to sleep except all the songs they didn't originally make.
