Screaming Trees

I must admit I never really gave a listen to too much of Lanegan's stuff.
Now Im stunned!

I think Screaming Trees blows away all the major Seattle bands apart from PJ. Thats right, I rate them above AIC,SG and Nirvana.

Dust is such an awesome album!
Lanegan's songwriting is so impressive. Anyone here got his solo stuff? How's it sound like?

    yes yes they are just as good as sg,aic and pj. I dont think they are better than any other

    One of the best albums of the 1990s. He and Layne Staley work so well on Long Gone Day. I really admire the Screaming Trees although I don't feel that the earlier albums are as good as "Dust". "Sweet Oblivion" is worth listening to and there was a compilation "Ocean of Confusion" last year that's good to have. Of Lanegan's solo stuff, I've only got Bubblegum, which I really like. Very laid back and thoughtful. Great vocals on some QOTSA as well. I'm not sure I'd put them above Soundgarden but generally I do feel that they're a very underrated band.

    thank the troublesome conner brothers and the amazing barret martin for the song writing -- lanegan mostly did lyrics with the screaming trees, but he does write all of his solo music.

    with lanegan's solo stuff, i'd buy these albums in this order:

    whiskey for the holy ghost (1994)
    bubblegum (2004)
    field songs (1999)

    then see what you think

    Been meaning to get some more solo stuff for a while. Anyone heard "Ballad of the Broken Seas" with Isobel Campbell? A friend of mine really rates it.

    I think anything he sings on is great dont think you would be disappointed in any of it.

    yeah, they were great. As good as Mudhoney, The Melvins, Flop and The Posies. Those were the real bands (among others)

    definatley,some real nice songs on there-the circus is leaving town- being my highlight. worth having if your a mark lanegan fan..........

    Sweet Oblivion is mind blowingly good!

    The only PJ albums that can touch it are Ten, No Code and Binaural.

    I really want to get some more of their stuff, but I'm not sure what to get, and I'm worried about beuing disappointed, and I can't find any of em fer slae round dees parts.

    Anyhow, I HIGHLY HIGHLY reccomend them to anyone reading this.

    "For Celebrations Past" and "Troubled Times" are 2 of the best 20 songs ever recorded.

    Lanegans solo work I prefer. Ballad of the broken seas, Bubblegum, I'll take care of you(covers), Whiskey and the holy ghost, scraps at midnight, field songs. He also appears ona twilight singers album(eponymous-not recommended) and on the Martina Topley-Bird's Quixotic album(v.good, he's only on 1song tho I think). Also another of his solo albums (called Mockingbird, not sure) features the Ledbetter song: In The Pines (remember nirvana unplugged), this has Cobain on backing vocals and is my favourite version of the song.
