Whats their deal. Why are they considered this great band. All the modern rock stations play them. they are obviously influenced by AIC. But beyond that, whats their draw? Why do they have this massive fanbase.
Why is this sully erna character some godlike character?
Not all loud rock is good. And this is a case in point.

See other Godsmack thread for a laugh.
I don't see their appeal. I saw them at Ozzfest one year, not impressed at all.
There are tons of bands who say they are influenced by PJ, AIC, etc, but still suck. Telling me your influences don't give you cred with me.0 -
In all honesty, the first time I heard Voodoo on the radio my first thought was, "Wow...that was the worst Alice in Chains song I ever heard." Then the DJ came on and said it was a song by Godsmack.0

No need to get them. Think they are irrelevant and plain boring.0 -
The only people who think they're great are the people who have no taste in music. Radio stations realize these people exist in large numbers so they continue to play crap like that.

I didn't realise they were considered greatCan not be arsed with life no more.0 -
Godsmack is to AIC what Creed is to Pearl Jam. Blatant rip-off artists. Geeze, they couldn't even think of an original name for their band. Ugh.I smile, but who am I kidding...0
-
I like them. No, they aren't an original band at all but that have some good tunes IMO. They are also pretty good live. A lot of people say a band sucks because they rip-off someone when knowingly their favorite band is not original either.0

so all you fools
who sing just like him
feel free to do so now
cuz he's dead
using, using, using
the using takes toll
isolation
just so happy to be one
sad to, sad to think
sad to think of him more
lonesome friend, we all knew
always hoped you'd pull through
no blame, no blame
no blame, it could be you
using, you can't grow old using
so sing just like him, fuckers
it won't offend him
just me
because he's deadI smile, but who am I kidding...0 -
i liked them at first until i realised all their songs are the same.0

Not much to get, really. They're a bad band. And they're not good live, either, even in a small venue, which says something. Tommy was an OK (emphasize JUST OK) drummer, but he found work elsewhere. Sully is far from a god.
I can only lay blame to their massive appeal (esp circa 2001) to the fact that they are Boston-based, which tends to magnify the hype."If you're looking for someone to pull you out of that ditch, you're out of luck."0 -
They're considered a great band? Since when?0
-
i don't care for them either but if you youtube 'godsmack drum solo' there's a pretty kewl clip of their drummer and lead singer in a dueling drum solo type thing.0

because he's dead"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -
hated them from day one in 1998. horrible guitar riffs, lameass vocals, lameass lyrics....
i remember about half the songs on their first record had the phrase keep away, get away, stay away.... or something like that.
remember that song they did for the Scorpion King.."I Stand Alone". really bad.0 -
I liked them for a while when they first came out. I saw them live, opening for Metallica in 2004. They weren't very good. All their songs get repetitive and boring after a while. To each his own.I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.0

I think Sully looks like a chipmunk, and they ruined LZ when they tried to cover them. I hate Godsmackdeep, deep blue of the morning
gets to me every time0
