FINALLY picked up an album by this band, I have been meaning to try to get into them for a couple of years now, just never done it. Bought "The Soft Bulletin" today, pretty good stuff. I wasn't feeling it that much immediately, but by about half way through I was really liking everything I heard. Currently on my 3rd or 4th listen, really good album.

Any suggestions on where to go next? I am guessing Yoshimi would be a good one based on how I like The Soft Butteltin, how is there older stuff?

I'd recommend getting Transmissions from the Satellite Heart, kinda more rock than Soft Bulletin, sort of grungy with the psychedelic twist... that album is awesome. Clouds Taste Metallic is also pretty good.
Stone: Thanks for the pick and the night of complicity, you rock!

  • you should buy the fearless freaks DVD is you want the sampler platter. Gives you a good idea of how the band has evolved throughout the years and what they've done musically. It's very entertaining even if you know nothing about the band.

Clouds Taste Metallic is excellent, much more guitar based though. Yoshimi is probably the closest thing sound-wise to Soft Bulletin, and has the excellent track Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell (among others).

You bought Soft Bulletin just a month too early though. End of January they are re-releasing it, combined with a 5.1 surround sound dvd, much like they did for Yoshimi (the 5.1 mix on Yoshimi is great, btw).

Has anyone else found the hidden message on the Yoshimi packaging?
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

I saw them play in Prospect Park several years ago. They put on an interesting show.

Ditto on all the comments that they put on a great show. Wayne Coyne is also one of the super nicest folks I've met. He talked so much during a signing at Newbury Comics in Cambridge, MA that he didn't get to a group of folks (including myself) and they shut the lights off soon after lol. Came out and sat on the sidewalk to sign the remaining stuff and really engage w/ people.

  • Saw the show.  it was eye appealing but the music didn't do it for me even the 3 songs that I knew.

It was a band I was going in blind on but they just didn't move the needle.

I do own the Heady Nugs box set and really like their Pink Floyd cover.

I enjoy them live, but am not a super big fan.  That said, the tour they did with Beck where they were his backing band was phenomenal.

I’m looking forward to their coming Nick Cave covers album too.

  • I so want to go see them Monday night, they're playing only 15 minutes from where I live, but Monday night shows ruin my week... that one will be a game time decision.
