I'm compiling a collection of old school 70s R&B, slow jams, funk, and love songs for a friend. So far, I have songs from artists like Rick James, Kool and the Gang, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, the Isley Bros, James Brown, Barry White, the Temptations. I'm looking for that type of music. Can you guys suggest any other songs to include? Thanks a lot!

Here's a mix from iTunes I put together. It needs some work, but is a good starting point and has a couple rarities on it.
Also - I bought an awesome CD from the Animals called Animalisms. It's them covering all kinds of old rock and roll and motown/soul music. Really cool.
The Tears Of A Clown-Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
I Was Made To Love Her-Stevie Wonder
Oogum Boogum Song-Brenton Wood
Cowboys and Girls-Intruders
Voice Your Choice-The Radiants
Best Of My Love-The Emotions

Too Busy Thinking About My Baby-Marvin Gaye
I Only Have Eyes for You-The Complexions/The Flamingos
It's Got to Be Mellow -Leon Haywood
You Sexy Thing-Hot Chocolate
We're A Winner-The Impressions
It's Your Thing-The Isley Brothers
I Want You Back-The Jackson 5
Hot Fun In The Summertime-Sly & The Family Stone
The Tracks Of My Tears-Smokey Robinson & The MiraclesThose undecided,........ Needn't have faith to be free
And those misguided, There was a plan for them to be

Well... most of the temps stuff from the 70's was psyhcadelic soul sounds... Not the "slow jams" or love songs (that stuff was early/mid 60's)
Love Song type stuff from the Temps..
The Way you do the things you do
Im losing you
Dont Look Back
Want a Love i can see
My Girl
The Girls Alright With Me
Since I lost my baby
Now if you want something a little rockier
Aint Too Proud to Beg
Get Ready
The best of the 70s stuff (hits)
I cant get next to you
Papa was a rolling stone
Ball of Confusion
Psychedelic Shack
Cloud Nine
the only real "love" song from the 70's was "Just My Imagination"- which was eddie kendricks last song with the temps.0 -
where are the women?
Aretha?
Pointer sisters?
Chaka Khan?
And did I say Aretha?
Minnie Riperton
Anita Baker
Patti LaBelle
Tina Turner
I used to like Average White Band too
Oh oh
Earth wind and Fire
( although my H says it is disco)
Grover Washington juniorYou must be the change you want to see in the world

Search out some Shuggie Otis (He's on iTunes). Some great 70's R&B.
Couple of classic tracks would be Strawberry Letter 23 and Aht Ah Mi Hed."You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.
