okay, without any serious thought, just off the top of my head here goes...

    Wilco
    Pearl Jam
    Beastie Boys
    The Black Crowes
    The Rolling Stones
    The Beatles
    Son Volt
    Uncle Tupelo
    Smashing Pumpkins
    Public Enemy

this list is all BANDS per the thread title, and leaves out solo artists like Dylan, Prince, Neil Young who I think have more interesting, more consistent output than some of the bands i listed above.

Actually, now that I think about it, Black Sabbath and Pantera would be ahead of Clutch.
  • At the moment..

    1. Smashing Pumpkins
    2. Pearl Jam
    3. Neil Young
    4. Bob Dylan
    5. Radiohead
    6. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
    7. The Gerogerigegege
    8. Afrirampo
    9. The Beatles
    10 Blind Melon

That's in no real order (though the top 6 is probably set). A lot of those make that list for different reasons as well, not just 'do I like their music?' but 'do I like how they do what they do?'.

The Gerogerigegege has made some EPs and albums that just make me go "What the hell? That was just 10 minutes of screaming and guitar noise".. But the way they went about making that 'music' is just so fascinating to me..

I think they view their EPs and albums (they've released a shit-ton of them, mostly EPs) as works of art. Something fascinating and interesting to the right ear.
