Maiden has always been a great band....thinking-man's metal....never did anything to kill their credibility.

They always do great stage shows...and their songs are not just about girls/drinking. etc!

Yeah I agree w/JOEJOEJOE and xiang. They do make you think a lot and most of their lyrics, deals with history (Aces High w/the Winston churchill speech at the beginning of the song), mythology (Flight of Icraus), Literature (Rime of the Ancient Mainer, Murders in a Rue Morgue), well, listening to those songs as a child, it made me even more interested in those subjects. Hell, I majored in History and took those lit classes so I could have an understanding of the basis behind the songs. So i thank Maiden for me becoming even more of a nerd. :D

And Bruce, his voice, DAMN, his and Rob Halford's voice are one of the best out there!! :) I cannot give anymore praise to Maiden. I still think they are better than any metal band out there. I grew up w/Maiden and I really they are HIGHLY underrated as a metal band. Hell, even Bruce gave props for Pearl Jam on the 100 Greatest Hard Rock Artists of all time.

    rockin to maiden since 86
powerslave is incedible, and that is the worst of the 80's, before that it was pure maiden, i mean pure MAIDEN
50+ shows and lost count somewhere along the way
  • in honor of one of the greatest metal bands of all time...

i had to make my 666th post here in this thread..."let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast..."

    Really?

What did Bruce say about Pearl Jam?
Decipher the illusion, know the facts but retain the magic.
  • I'm not a big fan, but it's ok if someone puts an album of them in the sterio.

    BUT !

I saw them live once back in '03 I think. That was amazing.. You must see their concert once in your life.. It worth the try, trust me !

no, they are about zombies and vampires and ghosts.

I would hardly call them thinking man's metal.

Many of their songs are about history as well.

i have to admit, i do chuckle a bit when I hear the Maiden lyrics about martyrs, goblets, prophets, dragons, and blood pouring red from the sky. shit like that.

  • Some of you have probably shoved Pearl Jam down someone's throat who wasnt into it... Did it make them irritable?? Probably... Maybe someone has done this to you with some music that you just wont like, no matter what.

Well my ex-boyfriend, and his WHOLE band did this to me. CONSTANTLY. Iron Maiden dvd's, cd's, etc... His band played the Chicago Auto Show and all the way there and back was Maiden... when I complained, they would just switch to Meat Loaf. The whole band had an opinion that you just CANT have sex to the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son album, so my boyfriend had to prove them wrong.

The biggest benefit of that break up was that I no longer have to listen to Maiden or Meatloaf.

I will agree that its obvious, and terribly annoying to me, that Bruce has an opra voice. It is a talent, but either you like it or you dont. There are some, like me, who just cannot tolerate too much vibrato.. (TOBY KEITH... "How Do You Like Me Now")

After reading and replying to this thread, I suddenly feel the need for a bath!

Hahaha.. to each his own, you Iron Maideners, rock on.

  • Oh yeah.. since I mentioned not caring a whole lot for MeatLoaf, I just gotta say: That spoken song... Wasted Youth... CRACKS ME UP:

    Wasted youth! Wasted youth!
    [spoken]:
    I remember everything!
I remember every little thing as if it happened only yesterday
I was barely seventeen, and I once killed a boy with a Fender guitar
I don't remember if it was a telecaster or a stradacaster
But I do remember that it had a heart of chrome and a voice like a horny angel
I don't remember if it was a telecaster or a stratacaster
But I do remember that it wasn't at all easy
It required the perfect combination of the right power chords
And the precise angle from which to strike
The guitar bled for about a week afterward
And the blood was sough dark and rich, like wild berries
The blood of the guitar was Chuck Berry red
The guitar bled for about a week afterward, but it rung out beautifully
And I was able to play notes that I had never even heard before
So I took my guitar, and I smashed it against the wall
I smashed it against the floor
I smashed it against the body of a varsity cheerleader
Smashed it against the hood of a car
Smashed it against a 1981 Harley Davidson
The Harley howled in pain, the guitar howled in heat
And I ran up the stairs to my parents' bedroom
Mummy and daddy were sleeping in the moonlight
Slowly I opened the door, creeping in the shadows
Right upto the foot of their bed
I raised the guitar high above my head
And just as I was about to bring the guitar crashing down
upon the centre of the bed, my father woke up, screaming " Stop!"
"Wait a minute! Stop it boy! What do ya think you're doin'?
That's no way to treat an expensive musical instrument!"
And I said: "God damn it daddy!
You know I love you, but you got a hell of a lot to learn about rock 'n roll"

    Really?

What did Bruce say about Pearl Jam?

he said something along the line that Eddie is one of the greatest vocalist around. I know he gave the band props a lot, I so need to watch that 100 Greatest Hard Rock Artist again.

The coolest thing about Iron Maiden is that they are 110% about the fans!! They even encouraged fans to record their shows:)
