My Daughter Livia: Tell Me about My Baby Name
Our youngest daughter, Livia, is turning six on April 11th and lately she has been interested in her baby history, especially her name story. She keeps requesting this story and always acts as if it was the first time she heard the story.
Livia: “Tell me about my name. What you and Dad were going to name me when I was a baby in your stomach.”
Me: “Honey, I just told you this story this morning!”
Livia: “Again, please!!! What did you and Dad want to name me?”
I put down my books and got up because she loves the facial expression and reactions from people when I perform this story.
“Pearl Jane Rich”
Livia giggles, “Then what did everyone else say?”
“Everyone objected to it. Your brother strongly objected,” mimicking his then-eight-years old brother’s facial expression and reaction, “No!!! Too much Pearl Jam! Pearl Jam! Pearl Jam!” He thought mom and dad were crazy.
People who knew us, including family and friends, rolled their eyes: “Pearl Jam, right? Sigh.”
“Grandpa Rich kept calling Dad to tell him not to name you Pearl because it made him think of a fat opera lady.”
Her oldest brother managed to convince his younger siblings to object to that name.
That was the end of Pearl Jane – we were defeated not only by our family and friends, but by our own children!
“So, your dad wanted to name you Olivia…and I objected.”
Livia: “Because you couldn’t say the word right.”
“Right, it was too long and hard for me to pronounce. I wanted a short, simple and special name.”
Livia smiles, “Yeah, you told Dad to take off the ‘O’.”
“Yes, and he thought it was nice and different.”
Livia Jane didn’t fit together, her Dad thought and I agreed.
“Your dad’s mom loved roses so we gave you that middle name, Rose.” Her grandmother came up here to help with the new house shortly before she passed away. She enjoyed the roses in our backyard.
“So, Livia Rose, that’s your name. Not Pearl Jane.”
She giggles, “I’m glad you didn’t name me Pearl” and wipes her forehead.
“Why?”
“Because I don’t know how to spell Pearl!”

funny being that she sort of ended up w/a PJ related name anyway- Ed's daughter Olivia! but you didn't even know that yet
Hey! We have four non-related PJ names: Tyler, Raina, Noah, and Livia.

you have better sense most of the..uh..(what's a nice way to put this)...crazy people that name their kids Vedder or Stone or anything after members of a band.
i remember when i read the thread where the couple had named their kid Vedder...it made me squirt milk out my nose.
I kind of regret sharing this story.
I'll pm Kat to delete this thread.
Thanks and have a great day!

I always said I would name my daughter Layla if I had one, but if it ever comes to making that decision I don't think I would...and I'm sure the wifey would revolt.
As far as naming kids after band members, I don't see it. I got a dog last year, tried to come up with a suitable PJ-related name for him, but decided against it...went with Rip in honor of Cal Ripken instead
They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all
Thanks for sharing your story :P

vedder6 - your wife indeed is cool!
fox - I like the name Nathaniel Vedder.
That's why she loves the story! It's more of how I performed the story.
Thanks for the nice words, Kristi.

Mel, don't pay any attention to the naysayers here - it's a beautiful story
I know both you and Bobby are PJ freaks but also know that your family is the most important thing in the world to the both of you.
I happen to think Pearl is a pretty name. It's not the like your favorite band is the Talking Heads and you wanted to name one of your children that.
Pearl is a legitimate name.
and i think the Livia story is priceless
Haha, no, I just have to throw a Seinfeld reference in whenever I can.
I like the story. I've never heard the name Livia but I like it!
Not sure, and i apologize if it wasn't you because i'll sound weird, lol.
And to the bashers:
My son is Dylan Stone. It's a great name and fits him well.
His two cousins that are closest in age to him are Maxwell Sky and Riley Snow.
Dylan Stone fits right in the mix everywhere he goes.
I looooove his name and get compliments on it all the time... from people that have no idea it is even remotely Pearl Jam related.
So bash away-mf'ers
Caleb from KOL.... yea, we're freaks.....
gobrowns19 - wow, you've got an elephant's memory! And no, you are not weird.
Enjoyed the stories, GTFLYGIRL & Vedder1029!
Now, I gotta go and rest my hand....I worked my hand off on that DUSSELDORF Poster for 47 minutes!
I thought it would fit perfectly in our red music room! I like the emotion in the poster...
Oh well. *shrugs*

DYLAN! Wow, now that's a cool name!!!
I also think that Livia is a really neat & totally unique name!
Incidentally...I also love Dylan Stone!
Everything you've imagined...needn't be stuck in your mind.
