Of course women who aren't pro-choice can be feminists ... and other reflections on the women's movement
By Joni Evans

great Q&A with steinem, just one small excerpt:

wOw: Can women who aren't pro-choice be feminists?

Steinem: Absolutely, they can be anti-choice for themselves and do their best to persuade others; they just can't support laws or harassment or clinic bombings that take choice away from other women. Feminists have always gone to the same lengths to protect women from being pressured into abortions they don't want as to keep abortion safe and legal. The point is not what we choose but that we have the power to make a choice.

  • Meh.... She's a bit full of crap from time to time but for the most part I'll give her a pass. She was quite the trail blazer in her day.

Why she makes great points? So if you are against abortion, a disgusting act, you aren't a feminist? Pathetic.

Hmm... pretty sure that's not what she said.

Gloria Steinem doesn't know jack about the history of her own movement—many of the early feminists were staunchly against abortion as they found it an inherently destructive and demeaning act with nasty ties to eugenics and racial cleansing.

where does it say she has to follow in other's footsteps?

in my opinion - women are better off now because of her ... probably not where they should be especially in other countries but nonetheless ...
