For those who've done stand-up comedy or thought about it...

I've fancied giving it a go for a while now.

Anyone know how to go about writing shit for a 5 minute spot?

Oh, by the way 'sit down comedian' jokes are out. It's been done. :(

Do you hang out with any funny folks on a regular basis? I could have a new routine of brilliant, crass, social humor every week if I ever recorded us guys at band practice. Work your material into every day situations and see how it goes over before you take it to the stage. Like a poem, good jokes need constant work and editing.

I think my friends tend to think I'm the funniest of the lot... which either means I am, or I have extremely boring friends.

i think its fairly well known that successful stand up comedians have agreed that people who are funny amongst their friends don't necessarily make a good stand-up comedian... its actually quite easy to make 3 people laugh when sharing a beer in the pub... getting people you've never met to laugh with you with no interaction from them must be pretty hard.

Mookie9999 just popped his stage cherry... he's a good person to ask.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

I agree with the lot of this.

Maybe Mookalicious'll get on this thread.
