because of the historical/political aspect, ive always liked this one:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_of_Ireland.svg

2 different people on either side (colours)...and white (peace) between the two.

    love it.

    that, and this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_of_Greenland.svg

purely because everyone knows the country and NOBODY knows its flag!

for the sake of being unusual, this one is apparently the only one in the world that is not rectangular or square.
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....

I hope it's not unpatriotic for me to say that the Brazilian flag is probably the coolest. ;)

i just find it offensive. and not to mention its rather irritating when foreigners mistake people flying it as brits. and have you seen the new zealand flag. holy shit they may as well admit themselves as the 7th australian state.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_New_Zealand

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Australia

What's offensive about it? I used to think that we would be better off getting rid of the Union Jack and maybe adopting the Eureka flag or adding the aboriginal flag to the top left corner, but I think the British influence is too great here for it not to be recognised on the flag. I also think the Eureka flag is now too closely tied with the union movement.

i find it offensive due to my irish heritage.

and yeah youre probably correct about the union connotations and the eureka flag. though i didnt actually say it should be our national flag, just that i liked it better. i prefer just a simple white southern cross on a blue background. and definitey no kangaroos. :D though i do quite like our coat of arms.

what british influence? you mean all the old people who still love the royal family and the people who trot out that 'our soldiers died under that flag, itd be a disgrace to their memory blah blah blah' claptrack?

I ahve an Irish heritage too, so I understand where you're coming from with that. (And I was recently disappointed to hear English too.)
Nah, I completely disagree with the 'soldiers dying for that flag...' sentiment, but Britain has played a major part in this country being is what it is today and should probably be represented even though a large part of the population have no connection to Britain through their heritage.

should probably??? sounds like bad habit that needs to be shaken loose to me. :D
canada seems to have no problem with their 'nonbritish heritage' flag.

perhaps when we bcome a republic would be the perfect time for a new flag. ;):)

Are you thinking of one of those Scandanavian countries?

you must be thinking of the Danish flag(?). :)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_of_Denmark.svg

that being said.. I've always liked our flag. :ohttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_of_Finland.svg I like the symbolism.. "Blue represents lakes and the sky, and white represents snow and the white nights of the Finnish summer."

also, our state flag has a lion, which I think is pretty neat. :Dhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_of_Finland_(state).svg

other than that, I like the flag of Kenya.
"Don't be faint-hearted, I have a solution! We shall go and commandeer some small craft, then drift at leisure until we happen upon another ideal place for our waterside supper with riparian entertainments."

plus it has a lion on it and it also has the word 'rampant' as part of its official name.

    :)

Flanders has a lion too: http://www.azoresweb.com/images/744px-Flag_Belgium_flanders.jpg

Wallonia (another part of Belgium) has a pretty cocky flag: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_of_Wallonia.svg

There's a Russian region (oblast) that has a bear with an axe on its flag too.
