Van Halen management tells us the band had no idea McCain was planning on using "Right Now" during his big entrance in Ohio telling us, "Permission was not sought or granted nor would it have been given."0 -

Well after the Napster mess they've had to back off that stance with ALL the backlash they recieved. Now they have work hard to win fans back like myself with a new album about to drop.

Isn't "Master of Puppets" perfect for the repubs?
btw Metallica is SOOOO much cooler than Pearl Jam these days in terms of boots, vault recordings and fan shows. I think the napster thing is really ancient history.
Cyanide (from the new cd)is such a cool song!0 -

Especially the Song *Disposable Heroes*
Disposable Heroes
Bodies fill the fields I see, hungry heroes end
No one to play soldier now, no one to pretend
running blind through killing fields, bred to kill them all
Victim of what said should be
a servant `til I fall
Soldier boy, made of clay
now an empty shell
twenty one, only son
but he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
just do as we say
finished here, Greeting Death
he's yours to take away
Back to the front
you will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
you will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
you coward
you servant
you blindman
Barking of machinegun fire, does nothing to me now
sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow
More a man, more stripes you wear, glory seeker trends
bodies fill the fields I see
the slaughter never ends
Soldier boy, made of clay
now an empty shell
twenty one, only son
but he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
just do as we say
finished here, Greeting Death
he's yours to take away
Back to the front
you will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
you will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
you coward
you servant
you blindman
Why, Am I dying?
Kill, have no fear
Lie, live off lying
Hell, Hell is here
I was born for dying
Life planned out before my birth, nothing could I say
had no chance to see myself, molded day by day
Looking back I realize, nothing have I done
left to die with only friend
Alone I clench my gun
Soldier boy, made of clay
now an empty shell
twenty one, only son
but he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
just do as we say
finished here, Greeting Death
he's yours to take away
Back to the front
you will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
you will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
you coward
you servant
you blindman
Back to the front.
Far too many have lost their lives and have been treated this way.

I think that by pulling the song they get their publicity."Had my eyes peeled both wide open, and I got a glimpse...of my innocense, got back my inner sence, baby got it...still got it"0 -

I have. I've seen them a bunch of times, and see them every time they play Seattle. Mike Inez from Alice in Chains spent years as their bass player. They are part of the Seattle scene. PJ brought them out for RITFW in Vegas in 2003 when I was down there. McCready took the stage with them at the EMP a few years ago. So yeah, people who matter still pay attention to them."I'll use the magic word - let's just shut the fuck up, please." EV, 04/13/080 -

Kel Varnsen wrote:This is what I don't get, you hear this thing happening so frequently during elections. You would think with all the money these parties are spending, and all the lawyers on staff, there is no one there who might mention to the candidate that doing that sort of thing is a copyright infringement.
I guess you all missed this part of the article from the first post:
"Copyright law may not be on the Wilsons' side as the song is licensed for public performance under a blanket fee paid by the venue to ASCAP, the firm that collects royalties on behalf of composers and copyright owners."
My cousin works for ASCAP and he told me that since they were in a venue that had paid the afformentioned blanket fee, they are free to use any song that ASCAP licenses without committing any kind of copyright infringements. This is the same agreement that lets sports venues use songs like "We Will Rock You" and "Rock & Roll Part II" as often as they want without having to pay the artist each time it's played. So Van Halen, Heart and Jackson Browne can sue all they want... they won't be able to do anything unless the McCain campaign uses these songs in a venue or establishment that hasn't paid the ASCAP blanket fee.Camden 8/28/1998; Jones Beach 8/24/2000; Camden 9/1/2000; Camden 9/2/2000; Albany 4/29/2003; New York 7/8/2003; Vancouver 9/2/2005; Atlantic City 10/1/2005; Albany 5/12/2006; E. Of course they can, and if they are not McCain supporters, then they should be pissed. But I was just pointing out that there was nothing illegal about what they were doing as some people thought.Camden 8/28/1998; Jones Beach 8/24/2000; Camden 9/1/2000; Camden 9/2/2000; Albany 4/29/2003; New York 7/8/2003; Vancouver 9/2/2005; Atlantic City 10/1/2005; Albany 5/12/2006; E. You've just never been to a Heart concert, then judge if they're a D list musicians.

hey man, it's the republicans' own fault. i remember during the mccain flap some republican was whining about how it's tough to find good songs with wide appeal for their candidates because the only republican artists are country singers. there's a reason that every single person capable of producing great art that embraces empathy, an understanding of the human condition, and a message that resonates with the public is produced by liberal
