While John McCain and Barack Obama have painted clean coal as a panacea that will help solve the nation’s energy problem, many environmental and scientific groups have questioned whether the burning of coal can ever be clean. We host a debate between Rainforest Action Network director Michael Brune, author of the new book Coming Clean: Breaking America’s Addiction to Oil and Coal, and Joe Lucas of the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity.

Give this debate a watch:
Can Coal Be Clean? A Debate Between Michael Brune of Rainforest Action Network and Joe Lucas of American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity

Is there such a thing as clean can coal become clean within OUR lifetime? I don't believe so, just today a plan to build a wind farm 16 miles off the Coast of Delaware/New Jersey that will not be visable from the shoreline. Coal produces more damage to our atmosphere than any other energy source.

So can coal be cleaned?

I don't think it can be, but the U S has more coal reserves than any other company, except maybe China, so with that wealth beneath our feet, they'll keep selling coal smoke stacks that we can't see as clean coal.

coal is coal for a reason. it completed a circle within nature. man opened that circle and in doing so fucks up the environment.

As along as it is strip-mined, it will never be truly "clean" in my opinion.
