Japan and Germany were not under military occupation... well, East Germany was... I guess that's what you're talking about, right?
Hail, Hail!!!
I didn't make any reference to the current occupation....apparently not any McArthur (or any 21st Century George Marshalls either) types in this current lot.....well, they do share some of the old soldier's bad personality traits...but that's about it.
Would've been over sooner if not for Bush's cowardice and our loser do-nothing Congress.

But, the wild card that is Muqtada Al Sadr is still out there. His Madhi Army is still armed and he is still supported by a large part of the seated Iraqi Parliment. There is still a great probability that he will call off his truce, once the U.S. Military leaves.
You also have to remember... the U.S. supplies all of the close combat and tactical air support... the combat surgical hospitals... logistical support (supply lines)... and central command and control. When do we hand off those vital support roles? And to whom?
Hail, Hail!!!
Not to mention the fortress (embassy) we built there, we will never leave.
Yes they were.
