Was Mandela a 'terrorist'?

A statue of Nelson Mandela was unveiled in Parliament Square, in London today. If the Americans had had their way, and Apartheid had triumphed, would Nelson Mandela and the ANC now be classified as terrorists?

    oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

    For the apartheid government, he was a terrorist. For the oppressed blacks, he was a freedom fighter. Simple as that. The apartheid government is gone, and hence he is generally viewed as a freedom fighter.

    Remember, had world war 2 gone differently and germany won, all the various resistance groups in european countries would have been "terrorists" for posterity. Hell, they were terrorists many of them. But since they fought for the cause who won the day, they are heroes and freedom fighters. (Note: I am glad they won the day, don't get me wrong, but terrorist is a term dependant on perspective.)

    George Washington and many of his contemporaries could also be labeled as terrorists. :D

    he obviously did commit "acts of terrorism" but, if you are being oppressed by the minority.............

    anyway i read somewhere that the name "Mandela" is known in more parts of the world than the brand name "coca~cola".

    i'm sure al-qaeda are doing things for reasons that seem just to them as well.... other names that would be labeled as terrorists are che guevara, pancho villa, emiliano zapata... but today these guys are "heroes" i would tend to agree.

    i wonder.... when bin laden is dead, or when 30 years pass if we'll be wearing t-shirts with bin laden's face on it.

    i still prefer pancho villa above all them others ;)

    I doubt it. Although if the media ever focused their attention on a charismatic Palestinian resistance fighter, then I'm sure a few t-shirts could get sold somewhere down the line.

    If ya thing about it....anyone in this country could be considered a terriost/enemy combatant if one speaks out and protest this administration enough.

    It wouldn't be too difficult for them to set one up in that light.

    well, i think the protestors would require to do some kind of act in order to be considered a terrorists, i would think.

    To them protesting is an ACT. Have you seen the surveilance that goes on when we protest here in DC. They take down our lisence tags and we're monitered throughtout our marches here in DC.
