who are you most afraid of getting into an argument with on these posts????

not that you are afraid, per se, that you'd pee your pants, but that you're actually expecting to get a really good argument from.

my picks are soulsinging (even though i can win, somtimes too ;) ), angelica (cause i don't know what she's talking about half the time), collin (he's a very sensible thinker... kinda like me ;) ), and catefrances (she comes off a bit scary sometimes  )
This isn't the land of opportunity, it's the land of competition.

    Heh.. I hear ya.

I rarely agree with anyone, but most people here (heck everyone) poses me a good question at one point or another. Pretty much across the board. Everyone.

I'm not scared of anyone in particular or of being proved wrong though. It's all part of it to me.

My problem is I don't always agree in an obvious manner, or come to terms with people gracefully (at first). I suppose that's normal. I am an Alpha type personality.

A hairline fault in my ego I suppose. I do know when to come to terms, I just need to soften the agreement or landing part so to speak.

Anyhow this thread is interesting so far. I like the approach.

Actually it's never crossed my mind Cate...after many, many posts. But I do know what you are capable of telling me of when and where I should be hearing it...hehe

It just hasn't come up yet. Actually not even close. From my perspective anyways...I appreciate if you've held back... :p

    Interesting.

    Interesting.

you've got no idea how often i haven't shared what ive really thought. and that goes across the board, not just anyone specifically. :)

Actually If I had a dime for every time I've typed out a response and decided against it.

I feel very strongly about some things. I often get too serious and look back with a different eye. I'm learning....do we ever stop learning? I like serious motivated conversations though....I really enjoy the challenge. It solidifies to me whether I really know what I am talking about, or what I need to know more about. It can be a good learning experience.

Googling "internet etiquette" is a good idea. Sarcasm carries poorly in this medium.

    Kat can attest. :p

who behaves on the internet differently than they do in the 'real' world? if anything i check myself more here than in person. sometimes i slip. and as you said it's difficult to convey sarcasm. but that's what the big grinning smilie is for, isn't it? :D
i also find cultural barriers interesting to deal with on the internet as well. things we say everyday in the company of familiar people are lost when said to strangers half way around the world. and quite often they can cause offense, which was not the intention at all.

Who behaves differently online in comparison to real life? I think you'd be very surprised at the percentage (unless you were being sarcastic). People think they actually have anonymity and spray graffiti sometimes so to speak.

Cultural barriers are interesting. Some more than others :p I used to use a lot of smilies but I think it's reserved for the fairer sex now. Although I like sticking my tongue out from time to time...but hey...lets not get overtly sexual and discuss what goes on behind closed doors all at once now shall we? :p

no i wouldn't be all that surprised. it just seems like too much work to me.

oh hey by all means stick your tongue out whenever you feel lke it. a little tongue every now and again never hurt anybody. and let's face it, it lightens the mood. ;):D:p

Afraid, no one. I like discussing things with a lot of people here because they often challenge me to think about my own ideas and it's nice to hear their arguments because they stay civil and kind.

most of mine are negative... angelica and ahnimus becos both tend to ignore whatever is being debated or whatever your point are and just talk about what they wanna talk about... usually emotional intelligence and free will, respectively. it's frustrating. also, juberoo becos she makes me raging mad and lose faith in human decency.

i guess from your examples though, you're a pretty worthy opponent. farfromglorified as well, though i hate arguing with him becos he splits your arguments up sentence by sentence to quibble with details rather than discussing the points collectively, which i always feel is kind of fighting unfairly as it's easy to make each sentence look questionable on its own even though the argument as a whole might have unimpeachable merit.
  • anyhow...

Did anyone notice "Triumph the Wonder Dog" presents no hits in youtube....and only three unrelated hits in Google?

oh god, angelica's and ahnimus' posts are probably the one's i have to read about 10 times to get their point.

i've never heard of farfromglorified... must be on here somewhere.... it sounds like it would really suck arguing like that. if i were you, i'd mess with him and do the same but make arguments that really don't make sense... but just makes you sound smart.... that'll get him going. ;)

  • I don't mean to shit on this place or anything because I have enjoyed some of the discourse here, the problem I have is that any discussion here automatically becomes a close minded winner/loser debate instead of an open minded thought and idea exchange. They are not discussions most of the time but debates aimed at winning rather than listening and learning. There have been some good threads that have not degenerated into this but I find that is the usual pattern.

There is really no one that 'scares' me, otherwise I wouldn't waste my time, but there are certainly posters here that I enjoy debating with when they bring challenging views to the table. However, I must stress, challenging views backed with reason and logic, etc. I admit I like sparring with farfromglorified and ahminus.

I'm not scared of anyone. The free will debates remind me of nothing more advanced than an A-level philosophy class, and they bore the shit out of me.

honestly, no one really scares me. but i have so little free time anymore that by the time i read a thread....my 2 cents has been written by someone else so it's pointless for me to say a word. tho, cate used to cyber intimidate me a lil with her persona...but i've come to find out she's just very outspoken and pulls no punches...and that's refreshing. but she also lives down under...so if i piss her off...chances are i'll live thru it. lol
