If you haven't seen the movie or read the book do so. Classic examples of the past repeating itself. I found myself humming... "History NEVER repeats I tell my self before I go to sleep...."

There are some pretty powerful examples both of seemingly limited people being able to effect change... and the effect of leaving a "liberated" country in shambles because it dosen't make cents politcally. Obviously it was a success in it's time liberated Afghanistan and was a precursor to the end of the cold war...unfortunatly the job was left undone in the end.

In any case it is an interesting look into politics in the late part of the cold war relationships and the like. Great dialog. I can't tell you exactly how much is truth and how much is fiction. It's worth a look. Rated R. so perhaps not a family movie if you are concerned with light nudity/ adult themes.... war violence....

Very interesting though... subtle allegory on our current state of affairs.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.
