Craziest show/concert you've ever been to

Mine was probably GWAR on Halloween in Philadelphia (either '03 or '04). I went with a few friends. Of course, the Electric Factory was packed, so we all got separated by the crowd.
For those of you who have never seen GWAR, it's a fucking fantastic show. Not only are they talented, but they kill every celebrity you wish you had the courage to mutilate. By the end of the show, everyone in the crowd is covered in fake blood, semen, and snot.
The really crazy stuff happened on the way home though. We got a flat tire at the top of the Ben Franklin Bridge and had to pull to the side. The cops stopped behind us and told us to push the car down because we weren't allowed to change the tire on the bridge. My friend handed the one cop a flashlight and screamed in his face to hold the light to the lugnuts so he could change the tire. The cops eventually complied. After changing the tire, we started driving home when the doughnut we had just changed and another tire in the back went flat...so we drove a good 20 miles back to Atlantic City on the rims.
I'll cut you in.

  • i guess mine would be seeing the reformed original line-up of black sabbath at the astoria in december 1999 - a warm up show for their homecoming birmingham gigs. i'd had to drive back from my brother's wedding the previous day in torquay, only just made it in time, the place was rammed and when sabbath came on stage everyone went 7 shades of mental and carried on doing that for the next hour and a half. it was almost impossible to breathe, move or do anything which didn't involve moving with the crowd. it was amazing, as i never thought i'd get to see those 4 musicians sharing a stage.
  • The craziest show I've ever seen would have to be the band Pornography. I saw them a few months back when they opened for the Melvins. These were some strange dudes. The guitar player/singer was dressed as Santa, the drummer was dressed like Elvis (it was in Memphis), and the bass player was dressed like a bumble bee. They came out and proceeded to play an entire set that consisted of one damn song. Just one!!!!! It wasn't bad, it was just very different. Oh, and the Melvins kicked ass!

Well, I guess Ozzfest 97 in Columbus Ohio was crazy because of the riots. And whether or not not this fact is known to the world or not, BUT, as we left as the riots began, we weren't allowed to leave the parking lot because of a BOMB THREAT!!! Turned out to be bogus, but we had to wait. While they were rioting inside, they were looking for a Bomb outside. I was also at Woodstock 99 when all the idiots decided to ruin the name of Woodstock and trash everything. Then again, the line-up wasn't so "Woodstock: like either I guess.

  • A couple of years ago, during a summer festival in town, Warrant performed. Jani Lane wasn't the lead singer...it was his replacement...but I digress.

Anyway, about 20 minutes into the show, a big storm came through the area...plus, the concert was right off the river.

Jaime St. James (the lead singer) decided to do the setlist in reverse so they could get all "the hits" in before things got too bad.

The awning over the stage had to be lowered and nearly 1/2 of audience couldn't see them. To thier credit both the audience and the band weathered the storm to finish the show.

    Interesting to say the least.

Throwing SOD!! Metallica and Danzig 94, again in Columbus. James actually told the crowd to stop doing it or the were walking.

I've seen GWAR 3 times and every time was amazing. Craziest show I've ever seen would have be the first time I saw GWAR in Tallahassee. Even if you don't like their music, go see a show... I guarantee you will have fun and be entertained. GWAR RULES!

  • When I saw Jerry Cantrell perform at The World in Times Square, these two huge guys started brawling right in front of me...I was against a wall and they started coming right toward me...unfortunately I had nowhere to go. I looked up and caught the attention of two guys on the level above me, and literally at the last second these two guys pulled me up as the two brawlers crashed into the wall where I was...the fight was terrible...then like 10 tremendous bouncers came in and tried to pull these guys apart, but couldn't, so they began beating the shit out of the guys so they could drag them off the floor.

If I didn't get lifted to the 2nd level, the bouncers probably would have assumed I was part of the fight and I'd be fucked.

After the show, the bouncers brought one of the guys out to the cops...THEY HAD BEATEN THIS GUY TO A PULP. They told the cops they let the other guy go. The crazy thing is that the guy they released is the guy who started the fight and the guy they beat up was truly defending his wife (I saw the whole thing), so I gave a statement to the cops...the bouncers were not pleased.

    were you a mud person?

i resisted. for a long time i regreted not being a mud person. i think i'm ok with my decision now though! that would have been a nasty ass ride back to indiana for me and my 3 friends.

I was covered. My tent still has mud in it from what, 13 years ago??? The best was that night when Metallica and Aerosmith came on in the rain and it was like taking a shower.
I love to turn you on
  • I was like 15 or 16.
Stage dive led to concussion at a local hardcore show. Woke up in the back of the venue staring at a couple Neo-Nazi's. They dragged me out of the pit and to the back of the building and stayed with me to make sure I was okay for the rest of the show.

So skinheads are OK with me. :D

The Genitortures show I saw years ago was probably the craziest show I've ever witnessed. Crucifictions, weird piercings, the whole S+M getup, torture, etc., but it was all quite entertaining.

The only other thing I can think of is when I saw RATM at Lolla '96 in West Palm. The guys walk onstage and I swear everyone started going nuts before a single note was played. It was the only show I've seen where I thought a riot was going to break out. I would have hated to be a law enforcement officer there during Killing in the Name.

  • I would have to say Gwar as well about 3-4 years ago..they were playing at this small club called the Opera house and the fans were nuts they were were rocking gwars amps back and forth and they almost spilled a couple of the stacks on themselves..You know the show is crazy when Gwar actually stops the show and tells the fans to calm down cause someone is about to get seriously hurt.

Lolapolooza '93. When Alice in Chains hit the stage the whole place erupted. ONLY time I've every seriously thought I was going to crushed alive by a wall of people. I stuck it out for the first three songs and then had to get the hell out of the pit. Took me twenty minutes to get out of there and back to somewhere safe.

I was there, my first concert. Rage was the opener and AIC was the last band we watched. I was 13 or 14 and was forced to leave before Primus because my older brother and his friends didn't care too much for Primus. I've seen them twice on my own since.

I saw Hole at the KPNT Pointfest show in either '99 or 2000 (I forgot which year it was) in St. Louis. Anyway, right after the band comes out, Courtney Love tells everyone on the lawn to come on down to the main seats because she's not going to play for just a few people in the front. She says, don't worry about damage, I'll pay for it. All of these people run down from the lawn and down the stairs to where the reserved seats are, a lot of people ended up standing in the aisles (the show was sold out). I had a reserved seat and I was scared, I thought a riot was going to break out.

Runner-up is the "wettest show on Earth" Pearl Jam concert in Kansas City of 2003. I was so soaked, but man, it was a blast.

Oh, and I got to see Gwar and Insane Clown Posse on Halloween night in St Louis one year, I gave tix to my brother but he couldn't find anyone to go with, so I went with him. I sat in the balcony. I didn't care for Gwar's music, but their stage show was pretty hilarious.

    for sheer shock value:
when Jay Z joined Phish onstage
at Keyspan Park- Brooklyn (June 04)
"Stunned by my own reflection, It's looking back, sees me too clearly and I swore I'd never go there again, Not unlike a friend that politely drags you down, down, down"

When you see me on the street, yell out "FAVO!!!"

I've been to alot of Pearl Jam shows; So fucking what.
  • Ah man. I forgot about Iron Maiden, Motorhead, and Dio in '03.
Dio had just left the stage and we were waiting for Iron Maiden to come on. For some reason, all of these goofy punk rock idiots decided to fuck with my friend Jeff (who is about 6'3, 220lbs). I guess Jeff finally had enough because the next second, I turned around, and the five guys I was there with were beating the living hell out of about twenty punk rock kids. A few of them were carried out on stretchers. Jeff's jaw was broken, but since security understood that the other group of people had initiated the fight, he gave him a choice to either stay and see Maiden or go to the hospital. Of course, he chose Maiden.

  • RATM during the 1st Tibetan freedom concert. Right as the Shrooms hit, RATM came on. I looked around & I was dead center of the main pit. I vividly remember hearing the 1st notes of "People of the Sun" and realized I was fucked!

For those that are going to Coachella and are going to be up front. The first 15 seconds of when RATM comes on will be the scariest moment of your life(In a good way :D )

Alright. Bring your Rosary beads and ammonia tablets. You'll need them.

Seriously, the last time I saw them ('02), three people died in the parking lot. One from heat exhaustion and two from drug overdoses.

Fishbone at The Republik in Calgary, 1995. Craziest mosh pit I've ever seen. The place only held about 500 people, and it must have been way over-capacity, because we were jammed in there like sardines. It was ridiculous. Great show though.
