Let's look at our current opinions of Corgan's work with the Smashing Pumpkins from their first album up until their breakup in 2000. I'll start off with my ranking...
1. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
2. Siamese Dream
3. The Aeroplane Flies High (Boxed Set)
4. Gish
5. Pisces Iscariot
6. Machina II/The Friends and Enemies of Modern Music
7. Machina/The Machines of God
8. Adore
My Prediction is that Zeitgeist will fall somewhere in the top 3....

zeitgeist will probably hit the number three spot
Machina II - Cash Car Star, Home, Dross, Glass' Theme, electric Speed Kills, ect. should have been on Machina instead of a lot of the fluff that was officially released. The production is better on Machina II as well. Billy was really looking to screw Virgin in the end.
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - Some of the singles bore me, some are great. Lots of killer album cuts though. Porcelina, An Ode To No One, Where Boys Fear To Tread, and Thru The Eyes of Ruby make this album for me.
Gish - A solid debut. Siva and I Am One are badass.
Pisces Iscariot - Starla and La Dolly Vita are two of my favorite Pumpkins tunes. Throw in some other top notch b-sides and outtakes and you have a winning package. If they had only added Drown to this as well.
Adore - The Pumpkins without a drummer. Not too fond of drum machines and processed drums. Despite these drawbacks, the writing is very solid, and the songs really come into their own on stage.
The Aeroplane Flies High - If this were just a collection of b-sides and outtakes it would rank higher. EP's featuring all the big MCaIS singles seems indulgent. Unlike Pisces, some of these outtakes should have been left in the vault as well. The title track is pretty wicked though. Transformer has always been a favorite as well.
Machina - Crappy production, and a lot of crappy songs. Glass & Shost Children and Stand Inside Your Love are quality. I of The Mourning is listenable. The rest I could do without.
MCIS - 9
Pisces Iscariot - 8
Machina II - 9 (better rating then Pisces but I think I like Pisces a bit more so it's higher)
Adore - 8
Machina - 8
Gish - 7

tarantula and doomsday clock are one of the best songs they have EVER done
My ranking would probably be something like this:
1. Mellon Collie - This double album has everything. For two solid cds, there are lmost no filler and loads of quality stuff. A candidate for all time great albums this one for me. 10
2. Siamese Dream - Also a killer album, with the singles everyone knows, but also tracks like Soma and Silverfuck. Classic stuff. 9
3. Adore - A little curveball there. I actually like that stripped down electronica sound, that was truly perfected by Thom Yorke last year imo. 8
4. Pisces - Some fun tracks here. Good for being a b-side collection. 6
5. Gish - A decent debut. Sets the tone for their sound and things to come. But few tracks stand out, and many songs are just a tad too sluggish for my tastes. (And I own most Kyuss albums as well) 5
6. Machina - Apart from one or two exceptions, utterly forgettable. 3

Siamese Dream stands alone. It's possibly one of the best albums of the 90's.
