listening to the bootlegs, he's got something in there that is really nasty and fuzzy, almost like a big muff or a fender blender. i searched the board, here, and someone said that it was a fulltone distortion pro. as far as i know, though, this pedal isn't capable of the tones mike's getting on songs like "all night" and "brain of j." or is it?
anyone know?

I know Mike owns a Fender Blender (based on an old interview), but I don't know if its a part of his touring gear ... That'd be awesome if it now was.
Mike's overdrives for '08 seem to be:
Ibanez TS9(keeley)
BOSS BD-2(Keeley)
Mike used the '69 or '70 from what I know but I don't know if he used it on the tour.

The BD-2 is definitely a "Mike pedal" if there ever was one!

as for All Night - i believe he used his 59 Les Paul on that one....and for the solo's he clicked on the wah and ts9 from what my ears tell me. and again....the amp + guitar combination = Mike's True Sound
I'm not too certain if Mike still has the bd2 on his board.
wah
ts9
rotosphere
phase90
whammy
line 6 dl4
line 6 mm4
*possibly* the bd2....
but that's his pedalboard as of late....

very good point....although i *thought* i saw it on his board at MSG night 1...could be mistaken though. Maybe a dyna comp?

no, it's definitely a pedal. he uses it on some songs and not on others. i've been listening to PJ boots for years, and he's never had a tone like that. really dirty, scuzzy, ratty...like he's going for a jack white thing.
there are songs he doesn't use it on, but it's clearly there on a lot of the recent tour. it's not something that's attributable to amps or guitars. it's a very noisy, gain-y distortion. and it sounds great. it's really clear on songs like "hail, hail" or "comatose," too.
