This thread is a place to share idea for supporting the hard working people who are in positions that enable them to make strides in supporting Democracy.  Many of them are heroes and we can do our small part by supporting their efforts.

I'll start with something my wife forwarded to me.  If you appreciate the earnest entreaty of Bishop Budde to Trump to show mercy on targeted groups, you can send her a postcard thanking her to this address:

Definitely for specific issues.  Where it gets tricky is doing what HCR and others have pointed out which is to pick your battles.  45/47 is creating widespread chaos, and anyone trying to take on too many issues  can be counter productive.
What I'm hoping with this thread is to get a wide variety of issues in the mix and suggestion with some specific ideas for lending support (like I did in the first post) to those issues, and then hoping some folks here will pick and choose some issues that are important to them and take action.  If all we do is complain and argue, we will accomplish little.  Arguing is especially a waste of time.
We'll see how this plays out.  So far this thread has 38 views and only you response.  I hope that changes.

OK, well at least tell me this: Do any of you ever write or call your representatives?  Or attend city or county board meetings or meetings open to the public at state level?  Does anyone here believe in and/or practice "government of the people, by the people, for the people" (i.e. Democracy)?
We hear a lot of people defending Democracy, but how many actually engage in it?  I think, not many.  Rhetorical question: Is it any wonder autocracy/oligarchy has taken over the U.S.?

I recall when voting itself was a big deal and it seemed like people did, wore their sticker with pride and that was it. Pat yourself (myself) on the back and feel like you made a difference. It's been awhile now, but it seems that is the bare minimum that you can do. I guess now it's putting a picture of whatever as your profile picture and that passes as participating. /s

I know I can do more than all of that and am a hypocrite in that regard.

I feel that participating at a local level makes a greater difference. I like to volunteer and help local candidates with school board, city, and state races. Attend my kids school board meetings, PTA meetings, participate as a PTA officer, etc.

I've never called my state reps and/or senators. That would make a difference, I believe.

Working at the local level is great!  In fact, I'm kind of what you might call a "closet Prouhonian anarchist."  Paul Proudhon was the father of modern classic anarchy, which is quite different than the common concept of anarchy.  Prouhon's philosophy basically states that society works best at the regional level and fosters cooperation.  Ideally, we would develop peaceful, cooperative interactions within our region as well as making an effort to foster peaceful and cooperative links with neighboring regions.  None of this is likely to work in today's world on a large scale, but by working locally, we can at least gain some of the benefits of cooperative interactions in our communities.

And kudos for doing volunteer work!  I went through a period of years of not functioning well due to an injury to my hearing and addiction to benzodiazapines.  What really got me to turn the corner was putting in 1,000 hours of volunteer work at out local health library.  That library not only was (it has since moved) a great asset to the community, it also gave me a big push in regaining self-respect and feeling useful.  It's great that you are have done good work in your schools and community!

I think it does help.  I admit it can be a bit frustrating because you rarely if ever actually get to talk to a congressperson- they have office workers who field calls.  But they do at least tally caller responses.  I did once get a response to a letter I wrote to California Senator Alan Cranston.  He actually wrote a fairly lengthy letter responding personally to my concerns.  I was actually kind of astounded that he did that!
But anyway, even a brief call or personal letter is a fine way to voice a concern and counts very much more than those "one-click" responses on a letter pre-written by an organization.  Those are pretty much ignored.

And hey, by the way-- thanks for your response here!  :plus_one:

Could very well be.  But WE can do something, starting with calling our representatives.  Get the 5calls.org app or check out their website.  It's super easy to use (if I can do it, anyone can) and super helpful.

Be defender of Democracy and call you representative.  Anyone who has time to post here has time to make those calls.

I have received no requests to send money.  You can donate or not as you wish.  It's not required.
I, on the other hand, require you send me $1,000,000 for my advice.  We accept monopoly money.   You can also pay by sending one of these:

This is correct. Thanks mick.  I was not trying to exclude veterans in my statement of support. I just did a bad job of calling out the veteran specifically. In my blanket statement I certainly had our brave vets in mind. 🇺🇸

Support them, not a radical agenda.
